MOORESVILLE, N.C. – StarCom Racing has acquired a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series charter and the team plans to contest the full 36-race schedule this year.
The team, which debuted in 2017 with Team Manager Derrike Cope competing in a pair of events late in the season, is expected to be on track for the season opening Daytona 500 in February with the No. 00 Chevrolet Camaro ZR1.
“What a wonderful opportunity it is for our organization to have secured a charter for 2018! We are so excited for Mike, Matt, Bill and Ashley at StarCom Racing for all their patience and generosity in facilitating this to happen,” said Cope. “We have a strong and enthusiastic team that are now working with renewed vigor and we can’t wait to start the season.”
Tony Furr will serve as crew chief for the team, which is actively seeking sponsorship opportunities. The team has not yet announced who will drive the car in the Daytona 500.
“We are pleased with the progress we have made this off-season to prepare ourselves for the Daytona 500 and 2018 season,” said Matthew Kohler, StarCom Racing president. “Acquiring a charter for the season has allowed us to escalate our program to the next level, which is a major step for our young team. We are looking forward to bringing top-notch equipment and excitement to the garage.”
The team did not reveal which team they acquired the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series charter from.
