MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Tyler Ankrum has joined David Gilliand Racing to compete in select NASCAR K&N Pro Series East events aboard the No. 17 Modern Meat Co. Toyota.

Ankrum will compete in at least seven NASCAR K&N Pro Series East races with sponsorship from Modern Meat Co. Seth Smith has been named crew chief for the team.

Ankrum’s racing career began with local quarter midgets on the west coast. As he continued to race coast to coast in USAC Ignite cars, late models and then super late models, he won in every division, including one of the most prestigious late model races, the Fall Brawl at Hickory Motor Speedway.

“We are excited to have Tyler at DGR,” David Gilliland Racing President David Gilliland said. “We worked with him a few years ago when he started in late model stocks and my son and him also raced quarter midgets together. It’s been great to watch him grow as a driver and we are excited to take this next step with him.”

“Racing for DGR means the world to me,” Ankrum said. “David has been very influential in my career. He even got me started in one of his late model stocks a few years ago. So for him to want me to drive for him again is pretty special.”

“We had great success last year in the K&N Series and we don’t expect any growing pains this year with Tyler,” Gilliland said. “I feel like he will adapt quickly to the new challenge.”

Ankrum is excited for the challenge the K&N Pro Series East will provide.

“To be driving in the K&N Series for the first time, almost seems unreal,” Ankrum said. “I’ve been working towards this step for some time now and the people around me have been pushing me hard to do so, I’m thankful for that.”

Ankrum is slated to begin his seven-race run with David Gilliland Racing at New Smyrna Speedway.

“This opportunity is going to give me a chance to showcase my talent on an elevated stage,” Ankrum said. “DGR has a garage full of fast cars and talented crew members. So, I can’t wait to get on the race track and see what this team and I can do together.”
