Richie Morris Racing persevered through a challenging weekend at the Lone Star Half Mile at Circuit of the Americas.
The debut of the new in-house chassis for Richie Morris Racing and rider Shayna Texter was met with many challenges. For Texter, the weekend was less than she had desired, but she left Austin encouraged by the dedication and unyielding effort of her team.
“Our Richie Morris Racing guys worked extremely hard this weekend,” said Texter. “It’s no secret that we struggled this weekend, but we remained focused on improving our bike and we’ll continue those efforts throughout the season. I’m looking forward to the next three, one mile tracks on the AMA Pro Flat Track schedule, and have confidence that we’ll take our list of things we could have done better, and make even more gains before we get to our next event at Phoenix on May 14.”
For team owner Richie Morris, the challenge his team faced on the half mile at Circuit of the Americas served as a valuable opportunity to further develop their bikes, he even shared in his riders optimism that the next events on the calendar would bring better results.
“We learned a great deal this weekend with our newly built in-house bike,” said Morris. “We are looking forward to getting Shayna on the upcoming mile race tracks where we hope to continue improving our bike to get our team where we plan to go. We’d also like to congratulate Honda for winning the COTA MotoGP event on the road course across the street this weekend. I can’t thank American Honda enough for the support they’ve given our program and it was great to have many of the Team Honda road race riders and representatives, take time to attend the AMA Pro Flat Track races and stop by the RMR pit this weekend.”
The team struggled with trying to optimize the handling of their bike for Texter throughout the weekend; additionally, they suffered a major setback when they had a low side fall after another rider made contact while racing hard into the first turn of the first lap of the heat race.  Because of the unfortunate result in the heat race, the team was placed at the rear of the semi. The challenge of getting a top three finish from the rear of the semi to transfer to the main was too much of a challenge for this young team.
Richie Morris Racing and Shayna Texter will be back in action on May 14 in Phoenix at Turf Paradise for the Law Tigers AMA Pro Arizona Mile. The series will then move to Sacramento on May 21, followed by a stop at the Springfield Mile onMay 29.
