PORSCHE MOURNS THE DEATH OF VIC ELFORD

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG is paying its respects to one of the most successful and versatile works racing drivers ever to represent the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer: Victor Henry Elford passed away on 13 March 2022 at the age of 86 at his home in Florida. The intelligent Englishman dominated rally and circuit racing around the world for years, particularly in the late 1960s. “The news of his death represents a very sad loss for us. Our thoughts are with his family,” says Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board, Research and Development. “We thank Vic Elford for his passion and extraordinary dedication. He was one of the most multi-talented and successful racing drivers to have competed for and with Porsche.”

PORSCHE CARRERA CUP NORTH AMERICA BRINGS 43 CARS TO SEBRING SEASON OPENER

Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands brings 43 identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars to its season-opening rounds this week at Sebring International Raceway. In only its second season, the premier one-make series will set a world standard for entries for a single region on the Porsche Motorsport Pyramid with Rounds 1 and 2 of the 16 race schedule. In a near-even distribution of entries across the three classes – Pro, Pro-Am and Am – the full field will be comprised of the newest Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car, the type 992, at the Sebring, Florida event, March 16 – 17.

PORSCHE TACKLES THE NEW FIA WEC SEASON WITH BIG ASPIRATIONS

Porsche heads into the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship WEC again with two 911 RSR. The new season kicks off this coming weekend with two official test days at the Sebring International Raceway in the US state of Florida. Just six days after the so-called Prologue, the same venue will host the first race of the year. For the second time in the history of the World Endurance Championship, the race on the six-kilometre circuit marks the start of the season. At the last WEC race on this legendary US circuit, Porsche won the fiercely contested GTE-Pro class. In the GTE-Am category, two customer squads campaign four more of the ca. 378 kW (515 PS) nine-elevens from Weissach. The Porsche partner team Penske contests the LMP2 class with an Oreca-Gibson.

TWO BMW WORKS DRIVERS, TWO YOUNGSTERS: STRONG LINE UP FOR SCHUBERT MOTORSPORT IN THE ADAC GT MASTERS

Schubert Motorsport is going on the offensive in season ten of the ADAC GT Masters. The team from Oschersleben will field two new BMW M4 GT3 and is counting on a mixture of experience and youthful zest in its driver line-up. BMW works drivers Jesse Krohn (31/FIN) and Nicky Catsburg (34/NL) share one cockpit, while two highly-talented young drivers – Niklas Krütten (19/Trier) and Ben Green (24/UK) – will be at the wheel of the second BMW. The ADAC GT Masters kicks off the new season from 22nd to 24th April at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.

BMW M MOTORSPORT HEAD INTO THE 2022 DTM SEASON WITH STRONG PARTNERS

We have known for a number of weeks that Walkenhorst Motorsport and Schubert Motorsport will each run two BMW M4 GT3s in the 2022 DTM. It is now time to unveil the designs of the four cars. Each one bears the colours and logos of long-term BMW M Motorsport partners who have remained true to the DTM in its GT3 era and play a valuable role in supporting the BMW M Motorsport teams and drivers in this prestigious series.

WRIGHT MOTORSPORTS BRINGS THREE CAR PROGRAM TO PORSCHE CARRERA CUP NORTH AMERICA CHAMPIONSHIP

Wright Motorsports, the longtime Porsche customer racing team, will return for another season in the Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands. The veteran Porsche one-make race series participant will be entering a three-car effort with drivers Varun Choksey, John Goetz, and Hutton McKenna. The 2022 season for the thrilling single-make championship kicks off next weekend at Sebring International Raceway in support of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Twelve Hours of Sebring.

RUTRONIK RACING PRESENTS ITS FIRST PAIR OF DRIVERS FOR THE 2022 ADAC GT MASTERS

Strong statement of intent from Rutronik Racing. The team from Baden-Württemberg has announced Luca Engstler (22/Wiggensbach) and Patric Niederhauser (30/CH), who returns to the fold, as the driver pairing for the first of two new Audi R8 LMS Evo II, which the team will run in the 2022 ADAC GT Masters. Niederhauser won the German GT Championship with Rutronik Racing in 2019, while Engstler is the reigning ADAC TCR Germany champion. This top-quality duo will share the driving duties in the number 15 car. The new ADAC GT Masters season kicks off from 22nd to 24th April at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.

MIES RETURNS TO DEFEND GERMAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE WITH LAND-MOTORSPORT

Great news for the German GT Championship: Montaplast by Land-Motorsport will line up again in this season’s ADAC GT Masters with defending champion Christopher Mies (32/Düsseldorf). The reigning German GT Champion will contest the 2022 International German GT Championship alongside new team member Tim Zimmermann (25/Lochau) at the wheel of a new Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II with the start number 1. The team owned by Wolfgang and Christian Land will field three cars from the German sports car manufacturer this year.

DTM DRIVERS UNANIMOUS “IT WILL BE A TOUGH SEASON”

An extraordinary season in DTM is imminent. Considerably more drivers than in the previous year, even more teams: DTM will be taking on the 16 sprint races with a large field. In a first DTM Media Talk, defending champion Maximilian Götz (GER), Lamborghini driver Mirko Bortolotti (ITA), Team ABT Sportsline newcomer Ricardo Feller (SUI), BMW works driver Sheldon van der Linde (RSA), DTM Trophy graduate Louis Henkefend (GER) and Timo Bernhard, team principal, Team75 Motorsport, spoke about their expectations for the upcoming season. In one aspect, they were unanimous: DTM is facing another extremely thrilling season.

BILL AUBERLEN TO START RACE NUMBER 500 FOR BMW AT 2022 SEBRING 12 HOUR

Racing driver Bill Auberlen has been synonymous with winning and BMW for some 25 years. He was an IMSA winner before he signed on with The Ultimate Driving Machine® in 1996 and he has continued to be a winner in every BMW racing car he has driven in the past quarter century. The 53-year-old Californian sits at the top of the all-time IMSA pole position (45) and victories (64) list and on March 19th he will make his 500th start in a BMW racing car at the 70th Twelve Hours of Sebring. That’s more than any other BMW driver on the planet.
