COOL RACING TAKES WEC LMP2 VICTORY AT SILVERSTONE

After a complicated day for COOL RACING in ELMS yesterday, where the team was forced to withdraw from the race following the accident of Alexandre Coigny, the team was motivated to get back on track and do all they could for their first FIA World Endurance Championship race. And they did with a masterclass result, when Nicolas Lapierre and Antonin Borga offered LMP2 victory to their injured team mate Alexandre Coigny.

PERFECT DEBUT: ONE-TWO FOR THE NEW PORSCHE 911 RSR AT SILVERSTONE

The new Porsche 911 RSR (2019 model year) has secured a double victory at its race debut. At the season-opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Silverstone (Great Britain), the Italian Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz from Austria crossed the finish line first in the No. 91 car in front of 49,600 spectators. The reigning world champions Michael Christensen (Denmark) and Kévin Estre (France) claimed second place in the ca. 515 hp No. 92 sister car. A perfect tactic from the world champion team, strong driving performances, swift pit stops, and a reliable and fast car in both dry and the wet conditions were the key factors for this double win.

UNITED AUTOSPORTS’ ORECA SHOWS STRONG PACE BUT SUFFERS EARLY HOME WEC RACE EXIT

Despite an unfortunate early retirement on home soil in the opening 4 Hours of Silverstone today (1 Sep), United Autosports showed very strong pace suggesting it will be a major force in the LMP2 category in its first full FIA World Endurance Championship season. The Leeds-based British team arrived at Silverstone for its first race meeting with just 680miles on the clock of its brand new Oreca 07 Gibson which had ran faultlessly in last month’s two-day WEC Prologue.

HARPER TIGHTENS PORSCHE CARRERA GB CHAMPIONSHIP GRIP AS WEBSTER SHINES

Porsche Carrera Cup GB, the fastest single marque GT racing championship in the UK, delivered two action-packed races as it stepped onto the international stage at Silverstone in support of the opening race of the 2019 / 2020 World Endurance Championship (WEC) season – the 4 Hours of Silverstone. On the same weekend that the 2019 Porsche 911 RSR made its racing debut, 18-year-old Porsche GB 2018 / 2019 Junior Dan Harper (JTR) and 2014 Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion Josh Webster (Team Parker Racing) took victories at the championship’s blue riband weekend.

UNITED AUTOSPORTS CLAIMS FIFTH LMP3 PODIUM IN HOME ELMS RACE

For the fifth time since making its European Le Mans Series début in 2016, United Autosports scored an LMP3 podium placing in its home race at Silverstone. #2 Ligier (Garett Grist/Tommy Erdos/Wayne Boyd) claimed a well-deserved third place in the 4 Hours of Silverstone today (31 Aug) – the crew’s third consecutive class podium this season – but apart from this success, the team endured a torrid time. Fastest in both practice sessions and qualifying P2, it appeared United’s best hope of success would be with its new Oreca with an LMP2 podium at the very least. But #22 Oreca (Phil Hanson/Filipe Albuquerque) retired with an electrical issue after a little over 30 minutes. #3 (Christian England/Mike Guasch) crashed heavily out of second place at high-speed having been tagged by another car while #32 Ligier (Alex Brundle/Ryan Cullen/Will Owen) was classified eighth in LMP2. United are now placed seventh (#22) and eighth (#32) in LMP2 Teams championship while #2 now lies third in the LMP3 Teams standings with #3 ninth. The penultimate round of this year’s ELMS is staged at Spa-Francorchamps (BEL) on 22 Sep.

BULLITT RACING WINS AT THE NURBURGRING, GT4 EUROPEAN SERIES TITLES TO BE DECIDED ON SUNDAY

Romain Monti and Alex Lambertz scored their second win in the GT4 European Series at the Nürburgring this afternoon. The Bullitt Racing pairing bounced back from a disappointing Zandvoort weekend with victory in the penultimate round of the season. An exciting final race on Sunday is in prospect, as none of the Silver Cup title contenders finished on the podium and the title fight will go down to the wire. RN Vision STS drivers Marius Zug and Gabriele Piana won the Pro-Am category in today’s race, while Johan Vannerum and Jean-Luc Behets took another Am class win.

In qualifying for the season-opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Silverstone (Great Britain), the Italian Gianmaria Bruni and his Austrian works driver teammate Richard Lietz planted the No. 91 car on fourth place. The reigning world champions Kévin Estre (France) and Michael Christensen (Denmark) claimed the sixth grid spot in the ca. 515 hp sister car with the starting number 92.
