PORSCHE SETS SIGHTS ON FIRST WIN WITH THE NEW 911 RSR IN THE USA

At round five of the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin on 23 February, Porsche aims to clinch its first U.S. victory with the new 911 RSR. After a successful start to the 2019/2020 season with a one-two at Silverstone (Great Britain) as well as podium spots in Fuji (Japan) and Shanghai (China), fifth and sixth places followed at the Sakhir (Bahrain) race in December prior to the winter break. Moreover, the Porsche GT Team had posted pole position three times. After four rounds, the works team currently ranks second in the manufacturers’ classification with the two latest-generation Porsche 911 RSR racers. In the drivers’ category, the two ca. 515 hp GT racers sit third and fifth. Three customer teams field another five 2017-spec Porsche 911 RSR in the GTE-Am class at the six-hour race in Austin, Texas.

ASTON MARTIN TO RE-EVALUATE HYPERCAR RACE PROGRAMME

Aston Martin Lagonda has postponed development of its World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar race entry, following the recent decision by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) and the International Motor Sport Association (IMSA) to harmonise the Hypercar class with the so-called LMDh prototype category in the WEC from 2021 and the US-based WeatherTech Sportscar Championship from 2022.

PORSCHE TO TACKLE LE MANS WITH TOP CREWS

The driver crews are set: Porsche goes trophy hunting in the GTE-Pro class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in mid-June with 12 drivers. Four Porsche 911 RSR (2019 model year) will be driven by successful Porsche works drivers and Young Professionals. Lining up on the grid are the current WEC world drivers’ champions Kévin Estre (France) and Michael Christensen (Denmark) as well as the IMSA champions Earl Bamber (New Zealand) and Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium). Richard Lietz (Austria), the two Frenchmen Frédéric Makowiecki and Patrick Pilet, Nick Tandy (Great Britain) and the Italian Gianmaria Bruni have also stood at the top of the podium at classics like Le Mans, the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, the Ardennes marathon at Spa-Francorchamps and the prestigious races at Daytona and Sebring (USA). Young, ambitious drivers such as the Frenchmen Julien Andlauer and Mathieu Jaminet as well as Matt Campbell (Australia) round off the top-notch driver line-up with which Porsche tackles the 88th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

JENSON TEAM ROCKET RJN CONFIRMS 2020 GT WORLD CHALLENGE EUROPE ENTRY WITH McLAREN 720S GT3

The McLaren 720S GT3 will join the grid with Jenson Team Rocket RJN, after the British team confirmed entry into the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS for the 2020 season. The team, established by 2009 Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button, will take on the full five-date Endurance Cup calendar including one round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the Total 24 Hours of Spa. The driver line-up for the season will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The ADAC GT Masters will get the new season under way on the weekend of April 24th to 26th in the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. Journalists and the public will have a chance to preview events taking place in the 2020 ADAC GT Masters at a Media Day on April 6th during official pre season testing in Oschersleben.
