FAREWELL WEEKEND FOR THE BMW M8 GTE ENDS WITH A PODIUM AT PETIT LE MANS

After two Rolex 24 victories in Daytona (USA) and five IMSA series class wins, the farewell race of the MOTUL BMW M8 GTE added the 26th podium finish and a pole position to the history books. At Petit Le Mans, the final race of the season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Road Atlanta (USA), Jesse Krohn (FIN) put the #24 MOTUL BMW M8 GTE on pole position in class and led the field into the last race of the GTLM era. The race proved to be tougher than qualifying but shortly before the end of the ten hours, Krohn and his BMW Team RLL colleagues John Edwards (USA) and Augusto Farfus (BRA) took over P3 and could step on the GTLM podium one final time. The #25 sister car and the Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 had to retire due to race incidents.

WRIGHT MOTORSPORTS SECURES MICHELIN ENDURANCE CUP CHAMPIONSHIP

A day after winning the 2021 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Driver and Team championship titles, Wright Motorsports again celebrated their success securing the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Michelin Endurance Cup championship on Saturday at Petit Le Mans. The No. 16 Porsche 911 GT3 R race car, driven by Patrick Long, Trent Hindman, and Jan Heylen, entered the event with a one-point lead and sailed to championship victory after standing in first-place at the four-hour and eight-hour marks, earning enough points to clinch the title.

WHELEN ENGINEERING RACING CADILLAC WINS IMSA DPi CHAMPIONSHIP

The Whelen Engineering Cadillac team of Felipe Nasr and Pipo Derani won the IMSA WeatherTech DPi Championship today by finishing second in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

CONTACT REMOVES ERA MOTORSPORT FROM PETIT LE MANS

Motul Petit Le Mans ended in heartbreak for Era Motorsport just 30 minutes after the race began, following contact from a DPi car in the opening stint. The No. 18 Oreca, sporting a livery designed by a seven-year-old race fan, became one of the big stories of the weekend heading into the race, only to have their hopes to win the Michelin Endurance Championship dashed early on.

EARL BAMBER TO SIT IN FOR MAGNUSSEN IN V-PERFORMANCE ACADEMY CADILLAC AT PETIT LE MANS

Earl Bamber has been enlisted as the third driver in the No. 01 V-Performance Academy Cadillac DPi-V.R replacing a sickly Kevin Magnussen for today’s running of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

DOUBLE FIRST PLACE FOR PAUL MILLER RACING IN PETIT LE MANS QUALIFYING

Paul Miller Racing drivers Madison Snow and Bryan Sellers both notched first place in their respective qualifying sessions, giving Paul Miller Racing maximum qualifying points and a first-place starting position for Saturday’s Petit Le Mans.

BMW TEAM RLL WILL CONTINUE TO RACE FOR BMW M MOTORSPORT IN NORTH AMERICA

In the run-up to MOTUL Petit Le Mans, the season finale of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Road Atlanta (USA), BMW M Motorsport is providing updates on the LMDh project for the 2023 season and its plans for the coming year. BMW Team RLL, who have been celebrating successes with BMW M Motorsport since 2009, will compete in the two LMDh prototypes as of 2023. Initial sketches give a foretaste of the car, which will be called BMW M LMDh. Alongside the LMDh test programme, BMW Team RLL will field two BMW M4 GT3s in the new GTD Pro category in the 2022 IMSA season.

MEYER SHANK RACING QUALIFIES FIFTH FOR PETIT LE MANS

Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) will start fifth for Saturday’s Motul Petit Le Mans after Dane Cameron laid down a 1:08.920-second lap in the No. 60 Acura ARX-05 DPi as the team chases another victory in the challenging 10-hour IMSA season finale. .

WEATHERTECH RACING TO START ON THE FRONT ROW AT PETIT LE MANS

The Porsche customer team WeatherTech Racing has scored a good grid spot at the qualifying for the final event of this season’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. In the hunt for top times on the Road Atlanta circuit in the US state of Georgia, the Australian works driver Matt Campbell posted the second-fastest time at the wheel of the No. 79 car. His brand colleague Frédéric Makowiecki from France planted the No. 97 sister car on P4. In the GTD class for vehicles complying with the FIA GT3 regulations, the best Porsche 911 GT3 R tackles the so-called Petit Le Mans race over ten hours from position seven.

The Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands has crowned its champions.  With the conclusion of Round 16, held here at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Seb Priaulx (United Kingdom) in the Pro class, Efrin Castro (Dominican Republic) in Pro-Am and Matt Halcome (Dallas, Georgia) for the Pro-Am 991 class have been written into history as the class champions for the inaugural season of North America’s premier one-make race series. Priaulx and Halcome locked their class titles earlier in the weekend, but Castro had to win the third-race of the weekend to have a chance at the Pro-Am title. The Dominican Republic-driver took the lead two-minutes into the race and never relinquished it earning his seventh race win of the year, and his first professional title.

PRIAULX AND HALCOME ARE PORSCHE CARRERA CUP NORTH AMERICA CHAMPIONS

The Porsche Carrera Cup North America has crowned its first two champions one round ahead of the final race. By virtue of his five race wins, including Race 1 here at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Seb Priaulx (United Kingdom) has forever etched his name as the first Pro class titleholder of North America’s premier one-make championship. Joining the young Brit as an early titlist is Georgia-native Matt Halcome (Dallas, Georgia). Seven Pro-Am 991 class wins on the season, to-date, awarded Halcome the title as he took the green flag here in Race 1 at the Braselton, Georgia-track. Round 16, the final race of the season for the series which exclusively uses the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car, will take the green flag on Friday, November 12 at 11:15 a.m. ET.

NTE SPORT AIMS FOR STRONG FINALE AT PETITE LE MANS

NTE Sport’s freshman season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will end next weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta as the team competes in the season finale, Motul Petit Le Mans. Don Yount, Jaden Conwright, and Benjamin Hites will drive the No. 42 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo, racing in the ten-hour endurance event on November 13. The young team has also expanded its program, adding a Michelin Pilot Challenge entry to the weekend, with Jean-Francois Brunot and Kerong Li driving the No. 41 Audi R8 GT4.

THE BMW M8 GTE MAKES ITS FAREWELL APPEARANCE IN NORTH AMERICA

This Saturday marks the end of an era. After four successful years, the BMW M8 GTE will contest its final race at the MOTUL Petit Le Mans endurance classic at Road Atlanta (USA). BMW Team RLL has competed with the BMW M8 GTE in the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship since 2018. During these four years, the team has claimed five wins and a total of 25 podium finishes with the car. The undisputed highlights were the two back-to-back GTLM victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona (USA) in 2019 and 2020. They also won the Driver, Team and Manufacturer titles in the GTLM class in last year’s IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup.

ERA MOTORSPORT CRAYON CAR RETURNS FOR IMSA PETIT LE MANS FINALE

Era Motorsport is closing out the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season in style this weekend, returning to the fan-designed “Crayon Car” livery the No. 18 Oreca LMP2 car sported for the first race of the year, the Rolex 24 At Daytona. The team drove to victory at the 24-hour endurance race in January, earning their first IMSA win in a livery created by Owen, a then six-year-old fan from Ontario, Canada. This weekend, the Indianapolis-based team will proudly wear the livery once again for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale at Petit Le Mans.
