Porsche has unveiled the new 935 on the occasion of the historic “Rennsport Reunion” motorsport event at Laguna Seca Raceway in California. The 515 kW (700 hp) racer featuring a body reminiscent of the legendary Porsche 935/78 will be produced in a limited number of 77 units. “This spectacular car is a birthday present from Porsche Motorsport to fans all over the world,” says Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President Motorsport and GT Cars. “Because the car isn’t homologated, engineers and designers didn’t have to follow the usual rules and thus had freedom in the development.”
Further to the sad circumstances earlier this month, the passing of Dr. Don Panoz, Team Panoz Racing can confirm that they will be returning to the track in 2019 to honor the legacy of the late team owner. Don Panoz passed on Tuesday, September 11th, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Known for saving sports car racing in North America and always trying to have the most technologically advanced car on track, the team will race in his name, aiming to enjoy a 23rdyear of racing success in 2019.
Takuya Shirasaka and Naoto Takeda have won the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia Am Cup title in their Audi R8 LMS. KCMG’s Japanese driver team claimed the championship after crossing the line second in class at round 10 of the series at the Shanghai International Circuit in China. The title win follows an astonishing run in 2018 which has seen them top the class podium on eight occasions and win the championship with two races still remaining.
Martin Kodric and Dennis Lind prevailed in a thrilling second Blancpain GT Series Asia race at Shanghai earlier today to lead home a FFF Racing Team Lamborghini one-two and take the championship lead with just one round remaining.
Seven race weekends in Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria and the Netherlands, an attractive package consisting of the ADAC TCR Germany, ADAC Formula 4 and the new ADAC GT4 Germany as well as the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. The ADAC GT Masters will be sticking to a tried and tested formula next year. As is now customary, Motorsport Arena Oschersleben will be hosting the opening weekend (26th – 28th April 2019). Next year too, there will be a prize pot of EUR500,000 cash or equivalent.

British duo Richard Meins and Christian England earned United Autosports its third Michelin Le Mans Cup top-five placing of the season at Spa-Francorchamps today (22 Sep). The “sister” Ligier JS P3 Nissans of Matt Bell (GB)/Jim McGuire (US) plus Naj Husain/Colin Braun (USA) posted 13th and 15th positions in the two-hour race held in typically wet and difficult conditions at the Belgian track. A brief rain shower in areas around the 3.7-mile track led to an exciting start to the penultimate round of the season. #32 (Husain), #23 (Meins) and #15th (McGuire) lined-up 10th, 13th and 15threspectively on the 24-car grid but were placed 5th (#32), 7th (#23) and 13th (#22) after a stunning opening lap by the wet-weather shod United trio as others were caught out on slicks in the slippery conditions. But on the second lap, #32 was hit from behind necessitating a pit-stop for bodywork repairs and a punctured front left tyre, Husain resuming at the tail of the field one lap down.
The fight for the International GT Open title is completely reopened, as Andrés Saravia-Fran Rueda imposed their Teo Martín BMW today in Race 1 at Monza, and are now tied up in points and wins (3) with Mikkel Mac (Luzich Racing Ferrari), today fifth with Alessandro Pier Guidi. The ‘Hispanic’ pair is actually first because of better quality of results.
Absolute Racing has taken a double-podium at round nine of Blancpain GT Series Asia. Alessio Picariello marked his return to the team by crossing the line second, following a storming run from himself and teammate Anthony Liu at the Shanghai International Circuit. Completing the podium in the sister Absolute Racing Audi R8 LMS were Adderly Fong and Andrew Kim. The finishing positions earned the Absolute Racing squads a one-two finish in the Pro/Am class.
Ferrari scored its first Blancpain GT Series Asia victory of the season in the weekend’s opening race at Shanghai earlier today thanks to HubAuto Corsa duo Nick Foster and Jono Lester. The duo scored theirs and the team’s maiden win by a comfortable 13.5s from leading Pro/Am crew Anthony Liu and Alessio Picariello, while Andrew Kim and Adderly Fong made it a double Absolute Racing Audi podium.
FFF Racing Team by ACM’s #19 Lamborghini cleaned up during Blancpain GT Series Asia qualifying this morning in Shanghai where Dennis Lind and Martin Kodric claimed a pole position apiece.
Sheldon (19, ZA) and Kelvin van der Linde (22, ZA, both Montaplast by Land-Motorsport), who are currently third in the standings, threw down the gauntlet in the fight for the title during FP1 at the finale in Hockenheim. Driving the Audi R8, the brothers set the fastest time in first practice, finishing 0.254 seconds up on their nearest rivals.
