Further to the sad circumstances earlier this month, the passing of Dr. Don Panoz, Team Panoz Racing can confirm that they will be returning to the track in 2019 to honor the legacy of the late team owner. Don Panoz passed on Tuesday, September 11th, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Known for saving sports car racing in North America and always trying to have the most technologically advanced car on track, the team will race in his name, aiming to enjoy a 23rdyear of racing success in 2019.

Team Panoz Racing will be competing in the Pirelli World Challenge’s Intercontinental GT Challenge, October, 26-28, 2018 at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca track, rounding out their particularly successful 2018 season. Just earlier this month, the team took the Pirelli World Challenge’s GTS Manufacturers Championship title with its pair of Panoz Avezzano GTs. Regular drivers Ian James, Mathew Keegan and Preston Calvert will be behind the wheel of the one car at the Weather Tech Raceway Laguna Seca next month.

Nancy Panoz
“This year, the team have shown how successful they can be. They achieved one of Don’s final wishes which was to beat the larger manufacturers one last time. I’m very grateful for that, and I also wish to continue racing in 2019 as a tribute to Don and to keep Don’s legacy alive. With any luck we can have the same result, if not better, in 2019. Don raced for the fans and I don’t think anyone is ready to see that end yet.”

Honoring Those Who Serve
Team Panoz Racing in a partnership with Hometown Heroes Racing proudly displays the badges of the U.S. Fire, Police and EMS services on the Nos. 50 and 51 Avezzano GT race cars to honor those who dedicate their lives to serve our nation and protect, defend and save the lives of complete strangers every day.  Michael E. Murphy, RN, EMT-P, founded Hometown Heroes Racing in 2014 with the sole focus of building honor and camaraderie amongst first responders and the military.
