Summer is in full swing in Japan, and amongst all the festivals and sweltering heat will be the 46th running of the “International Suzuka 1000KM”. Lyons and co will be hard at work preparing their R8 for the battle ahead this weekend in an effort to build upon the momentum gained from their points scoring outing in round 5.

Known for its high speeds and the fearsome 130R, Suzuka will be as always a challenge for for any team and driver, the famous circuit proving even more formidable in the humidity and roasting conditions. Looking to climb the
championship table, a good result here would go some way in restoring Audi Team Hitotsuyama to the more business end of the table in readiness for the last two races of 2017. Whatever happens at Suzuka, Lyons and Yanagida will surely be in with a good shout of bringing home the goods.

Richard Lyons:

“The Suzuka 1000KM is the biggest race of the year in Super GT, as well as being the longest! Traditionally we’ve performed well at Suzuka, and the Audi R8 LMS seems to make the drivers job a bit easier. The flow of Suzuka is one of my favourites, from turn 1 until the back straight you never stop turning, with most of those turns done in speeds exceeding 160kmh. The weather looks like typical Japanese summer weather and this is an extra stress on drivers and especially the tires. We could see track temperatures of over 50oC but I’m sure our Dunlop tires will be up to the job.

We go into this race as maybe a dark horse as we haven’t put many points on the board this season, but with a low handicap weight and our previous experience, I’m quietly confident we can have a good weekend.”.
