The qualifying result promises excitement for the eighth DTM race of the 2017 season: Behind the wheel of his BMW M4 DTM, Tom Blomqvist secured pole position with a time of 47.252 seconds. Only four thousandths of a second further down was Robert Wickens with his Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM, who will be lining up alongside Blomqvist on the front row of the grid. With Audi’s Nico Müller in third place, the mix of the three brands on the first three places is complete.

The battle for the lap times was a close affair. The first six drivers, including Bruno Spengler (BMW), Mattias Ekström (Audi) and Lucas Auer (Mercedes-AMG) in fourth to sixth place, posted lap times within one tenth of a second. While points’ leader Ekström and fourth-placed Auer will be starting from the front part of the grid, the two Audi drivers René Rast and Jamie Green, second and third in the drivers’ standings, have considerable worse grid positions in tenth and 14th place respectively.

STIMMEN NACH DEM QUALIFYING

Tom Blomqvist (BMW), 1st place: “I had a very good first lap, but everything is so very closely together. I am very happy. The first race wasn’t so good from my perspective. When you are on pole position, you want to win the race as well, of course. It is a long way, the car is good, we will see.”

Robert Wickens (Mercedes-AMG), 2nd place: “Today, I am much happier than yesterday. That is the crazy thing about the Norisring. Yesterday, we also had a good car, but here, you have to achieve a perfect lap. My team has worked hard overnight to repair the car. They have done a fantastic job. We made a few changes on the set up. In free practice, it wasn’t perfect, but in qualifying, I had exactly what I needed. I also got a good lap in. I want to win every race, but I am still lacking consistency. Being on the podium would be a dream, winning the race would be a fairy tale.”

Nico Müller (Audi), 3nd place: “Compared to yesterday, we made the step that we had to make. With the first set of tyres, it didn’t fully go as planned, but with the second set, it was okay. Starting from third place on the grid is a good position to be in, I know that from last year. First of all, I need a good start and get a clean opening lap and then we will see. I am happy to be among the first two rows, that was the goal. Now, we will see.”
