BRITISH TEENAGER HANSON BREAKS HIS OWN LE MANS 24 HOUR FINISHING RECORD

Phil Hanson claimed an excellent fourth LMP2 class placing in the Le Mans 24 Hours which finished today (16 Jun) – the British teenager’s ninth overall finish lowering the record he set on his debut in the world-famous sportscar endurance race two years ago. The Ascot-based 19-year-old, the youngest driver in the 183-driver, 61-car field again this year, had become the youngest overall finisher by placing 11th in 2017.

FOURTH AT THE GLEN FOR HANSON BUT IT SHOULD AND COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER

Phil Hanson scored another very strong finish in a major international endurance race with fourth place at the star-studded Sahlens Six Hours of the Glen at the world famous Watkins Glen, home to the United States Grand Prix from 1961-1980, yesterday (1 Jul). The 18-year-old Briton though left the circuit in upstate New York disappointed after a performance that looked set to leave him and United Autosports team-mates Bruno Senna (BRA) and Paul Di Resta (GB) in real contention for the overall win until rear end contact from another car late in the race.

HANSON DETERMINED TO SCORE SECOND CONSECUTIVE U.S. TOP-FIVE

Phil Hanson heads for the penultimate round of the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup bidding to overcome the odds and score a podium finish next Sunday (1 Jul). The British teenager who was out of luck in his second Le Mans 24 Hours (16-17 Jun), contests the Six-Hour race at Watkins Glen in New York State with Paul Di Resta (GB) and Bruno Senna (BR) in a United Autosports Ligier JS P217.

HANSON SUFFERS HEARTACHE IN SECOND LE MANS 24 HOUR RACE

Phil Hanson suffered heartache in the Le Mans 24 Hours that finished this afternoon (17 Jun). The British teenager, who became the youngest overall finisher in the 94-year history of the annual Le Mans race on his début last year by placing 11th, had looked set to record a top-four LMP2 category result – and a top-10 overall placing – in this year’s French race. But his United Autosports entered Ligier JSP217 he shared with Filipe Albuquerque (POR) and Paul Di Resta (GB) suffered major damage when Di Resta crashed out of fourth place with less than five hours to run. London-based Phil was the youngest driver in this year’s race that attracted 180 drivers..

UNITED AUTOSPORTS ENJOYS POSITIVE SEBRING OFFICIAL TEST

United Autosports has completed a successful test in preparation for next month’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The #32 Ligier JS P217 LMP2 sports-prototype completed over 1,000 trouble-free miles in the two-day test at Sebring (22-23 Feb).
