MERCEDES-AMG TEAM MUCKE MOTORSPORT WILL AGAIN RELY ON SPACE DRIVE TECHNOLOGY IN THE 2022 DTM

When the Mercedes-AMG GT3 enters the DTM grid, one thing is different: The Space Drive technology carrier with the #18 has no mechanical connection between the steering unit and the steering gear. All steering signals are passed on electronically and information on the road conditions is fed back to the driver in real time. In the 2022 season, Mercedes-AMG Team Mücke Motorsport, together with Mercedes-AMG GT3 driver Maximilian Buhk, will continue to focus on technology development in motorsport and will once again work in cooperation with Schaeffler Paravan Technologie GmbH & Co. KG to further develop the steer-by-wire technology Space Drive under the extremely demanding conditions of the DTM.

MISSED CHANCES AND POINTS GAINED FOR MERCEDES-AMG TEAM MUCKE AT THE RED BULL RING

The 5th DTM weekend brought a rollercoaster of emotions for the Mercedes-AMG Team Mücke Motorsport team at the Austrian Red Bull Ring. In the 9th round of the DTM season on Saturday, a time penalty of five seconds relegated Maximilian Buhk to 12th place in his #18 Mercedes-AMG GT3, which is equipped with the Space Drive steer-by-wire system from Schaeffler Paravan and does not require any mechanical connection at all between the steering unit and the steering gearbox. With 9th place in Sunday’s race, the 28-year-old AMG driver was then finally able to score DTM points again. However, bad luck in qualifying and minor collisions on the track once again cost the Mercedes-AMG GT3 several ranks.

MIXED DTM WEEKEND FOR MERCEDES-AMG TEAM MUCKE MOTORSPORT AND MAXIMILIAN BUHK

The results of the Mercedes-AMG Team Mücke Motorsport on the traditional circuit in Zolder, Belgium, for the third DTM weekend are mixed. After bad luck in Saturday’s race, Maximilian Buhk was able to make up ground on Sunday with the #18 Mercedes-AMG GT 3, which is equipped with the Space Drive steer-by-wire system and does not require any mechanical connection at all between the steering unit and the steering gearbox, and finished in 11th place, narrowly missing out on the points classification. The track in Zolder is regarded as a demanding “old school” track that does not forgive any mistakes.

The best-placed Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the Sunday race of the international German GT championship was the #13 Team Zakspeed Mobil Krankenkasse Racing entry driven by Jules Gounon (FRA) and Igor Walilko (POL), classified in eighth place. 23-year old  Walilko ended up on the junior class podium on both days. There were also podium results for the teams with the Mercedes-AMG GT4s in the two ADAC GT4 Germany races.

HTP Motorsport are entering the 2018 ADAC GT Masters with two Mercedes-AMG GT3s, sporting a distinctive yellow green livery.
