A PODIUM AND AN ABANDON FOR REBELLION RACING AT THE 6 HOURS OF FUJI

The fourth meeting of the FIA WEC Super Season started on Friday, October 12th with the first two free practices. Both sessions were disrupted by red flags because of track problems, making the preparation of the cars more complicated than expected. Following the third and final free practice, a technical problem was detected on the R-13 N.3 and required the intervention of the entire Team to change both the engine block and the gearbox. The teams worked for nearly three hours to put the car back on track for the qualifying session and managed to achieve the fourth overall time.

PORSCHE EXTENDS WEC CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD AFTER WIN AT FUJI

The Porsche GT Team has won the six-hour race at the Fuji Speedway in Japan. At round four of the FIA WEC World Sports Car Championship, Kevin Estre (F) and Michael Christensen (DK) crossed the finish line in first place in the GTE-Pro category with the ca. 510 hp Porsche 911 RSR. The sister car driven by Richard Lietz (A) and Gianmaria Bruni (I) concluded the race in fifth place. With this, Porsche has extended its lead in the manufacturers’ and drivers’ classifications. Porsche also won the GTE-Am category on Sunday: The newcomer team Project 1 with Porsche works driver Jörg Bergmeister from Germany, Patrick Lindsey (USA) and Egidio Perfetti (N) secured its maiden victory in the WEC. 

SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND FOR THE BMW M8 GTE ON TWO CONTINENTS: SECOND POSITION AT FUJI, THIRD PLACE AT ROAD ATLANTA

Two continents, two race series, two podiums: BMW M Motorsport can look back on a successful weekend with the new BMW M8 GTE. António Félix da Costa (POR) and Tom Blomqvist (GBR) finished second for BMW Team MTEK in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) round at Fuji (JPN) driving the #82 BMW M8 GTE in the LM GTE Pro class. At the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale at Road Atlanta (USA), BMW Team RLL’s John Edwards (USA), Jesse Krohn (FIN) and Chaz Mostert (AUS) came third in the GTLM category and were also celebrating on the podium.

BEST PORSCHE 911 RSR ON FUJI FOURTH GRID ROW, POLE POSITION IN THE GTE-AM CLASS

The Porsche GT Team qualified on starting positions eight and ten for the FIA WEC World Sports Car Championship in Fuji, Japan. Richard Lietz (A) and Gianmaria Bruni (I) in the No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR and Kevin Estre (F) and Michael Christensen (DK) in the No. 92 sister car will now focus on the race performance. After setting the fastest lap with the RSR in the GTE-Pro category during the free practice on Saturday morning, the qualifying session held three hours later did not yield the expected lap times. Lietz and Bruni take up the six-hour race on the 4.563-kilometre racetrack from the fourth grid row. The French-Danish driver pairing starts directly behind them.

THIRD ROW FOR FERRARI AT FUJI

As anticipated, qualifying for the Fuji 6 Hours was not easy for the five Ferraris entered in the fourth round of the 2018-19 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Super Season. In the GTE-Pro class, the 488 GTE no. 71 and no. 51 of the world champion team will start from the third row. The cars competing in the GTE-Am class will be in the third, fourth and fifth rows, with the 488 GTE no. 61 of Keita Sawa, Weng Sun Mok and Matt Griffin the best of the Ferraris.
