The Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R will start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race from the front in second tomorrow at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
The Whelen Engineering Cadillac team posted the fastest laps in both of today’s practice sessions. In qualifying, Felipe Nasr had the controls of the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R and put in a lap of 1:08.730 good for the outside of the front row. Nasr was pushing the red Cadillac during the session, so much so, he went off in Turn 1 early in the going. He was able to gather the car back-up, scrub the Michelin tires and comeback and put the DPi-V.R on the front row.
“P2 in the end I think is a great spot for our Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R for the start of the race tomorrow,” Nasr said. “We showed our speed and pace every session. It is a shame to miss out by just a little bit to pole position, less than a tenth. I felt like I had a good lap. It is good for the team to be the fastest Cadillac on the grid. We are on the front row. The drivers got some good laps under their belts today so I think we are ready. There is a lot of strategy to play-out over the six-hours. We expect to win.”
