TOYOTA GAZOO Racing will have a new driver behind the wheel of a TS050 HYBRID in Bahrain next month when Thomas Laurent takes part in the annual FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) rookie test.
Thomas, 19, made his LMP2 debut in WEC this season and has quickly established himself as a rising start of endurance racing, finishing second overall at the Le Mans 24 Hours and leading the LMP2 standings throughout 2017.
Thomas will visit the team’s base in Cologne, Germany for a seat fitting and simulator session prior to his test day, which will include a minimum of 30 laps.
The rookie test takes place the day after the season-ending 6 Hours of Bahrain and sees promising young drivers given their chance to experience Le Mans prototype cars.
It will be the third such rookie test, with TOYOTA working with Sam Bird and Alex Lynn in 2015, and Pipo Derani last year.
