Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Matt Campbell (Australia) will start third on the GTLM grid for tomorrow’s running of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship WeatherTech 240 at Watkins Glen International Raceway.
Coming off of a rebuild of the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR from fire damage that occurred on the second lap of Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen MacNeil took a measured approach to qualifying. The track had seen a good amount of rain all day and temperatures had dropped since the evening 15-minute qualifying session. With the changing conditions and being cautious he put in some solid laps to keep the red, white and blue Porsche in one piece for tomorrow’s race.
“Not an easy start to the weekend after a hard ending to our last race here four days ago,” MacNeil said. “I got a few laps in the wet in our only practice this afternoon. Then I had to go out on slicks in the wet. The Proton Competition team has been working hard enough these last few days I didn’t want to give them any more additional work before the race tomorrow. I just used the qualifying session as a learning process in case the weather is similar for the race. Starting third for the 240 and we will look to move up from there tomorrow.”
