Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Mathieu Jaminet (France) will start from the second row in GTLM for tomorrow’s running of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Acura Long Beach Grand Prix.
MacNeil had the wheel of the Proton Competition prepared No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche RSR for the 15-minute qualifying session around the concrete lined 1.9-mile, 11-turn that runs along the Long Beach waterfront. He was able to post a time of 1:19.686 good for a third place starting position for tomorrow’s 100-minute race.
“Not an easy day,” MacNeil said. “The Proton guys have been working hard on the car since the first session. The car in qualifying was the best it has been all day. It was a shame; I was on a quicker lap at the end when the red flag came out for the Aston crash. That was unfortunate. I would’ve closed the gap a bit more to the Corvettes. All to play for tomorrow. The WeatherTech Porsche is running strong. It will be all about staying out of trouble as the track is still green and has low grip. We will see what the 100-minute race brings.”
