WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill) and Daniel Juncadella (Spain) will start from the sixth row for tomorrow’s running of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP).
In the first practice yesterday around the 2.4-mile, 10-turn track located 40-minutes north of Toronto, MacNeil and Juncadella managed to run the fastest lap of the day in GTD Pro in the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana support. The strong practice times continued in today’s early session with the Proton Competition prepared entry finishing in the top four.
In qualifying, under the hottest conditions of the weekend, MacNeil had the controls and turned a lap of 1:17.071 that will have the team starting from the sixth row.
“Qualifying was a little tough,” MacNeil said. “The track was 20 degrees hotter for qualifying than it was for practice at 8 a.m. this morning. The handling on our WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG changed a little more than we anticipated to get the max lap time out of the car. It will be similar conditions for the race at 3 p.m. tomorrow so we will make some changes for the warm-up then go racing.”
