Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Gunnar Jeannette (Salt Lake City, Ut.) will start the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) tomorrow from the fifth row in GTD.

The No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari team is dealing with reduced RPM levels, along with a 2-liter fuel capacity reduction since the last race at Road America. MacNeil had the wheel of the black and white Ferrari for the 15-minute qualifying session around the 3.2-mile, 17-turn VIR circuit. As he left pit lane and began to bring the tire temps up he was able to post a time of 1:45.506 just before the rain began. The time will have the team starting from the fifth row (ninth) and they have elected to go to new sticker Continental tires for the start of tomorrow’s race.

“Tough qualifying,” MacNeil said. “We have been struggling all weekend. It hasn’t deterred the Scuderia Corsa/WeatherTech guys, they have been working hard along with us to get every second out of the 63 Ferrari. We are going to fight for every position tomorrow in the race. We will welcome some rain tomorrow as it is the great equalizer.”

“This weekend has been an exercise in struggling,” Jeannette said. “We have made some progress with the WeatherTech Ferrari, but the car isn’t able to do everything we want it to with the BOP hit we took since the last race. We are going to race our butts off for every position tomorow.”
