WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.), Jeff Segal (Miami, Fla.) and Gunnar Jeannette (Salt Lake City, Ut.) are ready to for six hours of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship racing at this weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.
The legendary Watkins Glen International Raceway 3.4-mile, 11-turn undulating road course located in the Finger Lakes region of New York is a challenging trek that suits the No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari. MacNeil and Segal are coming off of a fifth-place finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and are joined by seasoned pro Jeannette. The team’s regular driver Alessandro Balzan’s recovery is still uncertain, in the meantime he will remain with the team in a coaching/advisory role.
MacNeil is currently fifth in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship GT standings and sixth in the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup.
“Jeff and I are coming off of a top five run at Le Mans two weekends ago so we are feeling pretty good” MacNeil said. “All three of us have a lot of miles at The Glen and the Ferrari 488 is really good through the high-speed turns. The Scuderia Corsa guys will have a strong WeatherTech Racing Ferrari prepared and Alessandro will be with us to provide his insight. We had a decent run at Daytona and a P2 finish at Sebring, so we are planning to be one to the cars fighting for the podium come Sunday afternoon in upstate New York.”
“I’m really excited to get back behind the wheel of our WeatherTech Ferrari,” Jeannette said. “Watkins Glen, for me, is a highlight of the year. The track is super fun to drive and with the repave from a few years ago the grip level is fantastic. The current BOP (Balance of Performance) is very close between all the cars which should make for a great fight in our GTD class.”
“Really looking forward to the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen this weekend and getting back behind the wheel of the WeatherTech Racing Ferrari,” Segal said. “We had a good run at Detroit, we have some momentum and I am feeling comfortable with the car. Watkins Glen is a fantastic track, I won my first pro race there in 2007. I won the six hours there with Scuderia Corsa in 2016. The team tested there a while ago so we should unload with a pretty good WeatherTech Ferrari this weekend.”
