Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Alessandro Balzan (Italy) are ready for the IMSA WeatherTech Championship Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championship to run at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, October 30 – November 1.
The team is coming off of a Petit Le Mans win just nine days ago. MacNeil has a lot of laps at the WeatherTech branded track as he earned a Ferrari Challenge win there just last month. The Scuderia Corsa managed team is motivated to finish the season off strong. The 2.2-mile, 11-turn WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca track known for its downhill Corkscrew turn should suit the mid-engine layout of the WeatherTech Racing Ferrari 488 Evo. The track, also known for low grip and being tough on rear tires, will reward a well-balanced, and well-driven car this weekend.
“We had a great car at Petit,” MacNeil said. “We will need the same type of machine this weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Usually you fight to manage the rear tires there, so we will need a well-balanced car that we can race with this weekend. I was fortunate to get a win there last month in Ferrari Challenge, so hopefully we can put that together with our motivation from winning Petit and have another podium weekend.”
Balzan won at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in 2017 in GTD and wants to add to that record on Sunday.
“I am very excited to return to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca,” Balzan said. “Laguna Seca is the first track that I debuted racing in North America. It was the first race for Scuderia Corsa and my first race in America. We also had a GTD class win in 2017. The Ferrari 488 has always been good around WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. We have a good feeling going into the race. We had a good overall team win at Petit Le Mans. Cooper drove great at Petit and of course his win at Ferrari Challenge last month gives us added confidence. I think we will have a good starting set-up for this weekend. I can’t wait to go racing!”
