WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill) and Daniel Juncadella (Spain) are headed north for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Chevrolet Grand Prix to run at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP), July 1-3.
Following a tough race at Watkins Glen International just three days ago where the team was the top-finishing Mercedes on the weekend coming to the checker fifth in GTD Pro. The IMSA WeatherTech Championship returns to the circuit formerly known as Mosport for the first time since 2019. The 2.4-mile, 10-turn track is a mix of high-speed corners that empty into the long Andretti Straight. The high downforce of the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG with Mercedes-Benz of Billings, Montana support should be a stout package for this weekend.
MacNeil is joined once again by Juncadella who ran with the team at Daytona and again at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
“It will be good to get right back at it just five days after The Glen,” MacNeil said. “We thought we deserved more at the last race. CTMP is a tough and fast track. From the exit of Turn 10 all the way to the exit onto the Mario Andretti straight you are up on the wheel running the car on the absolute edge. We will have to unload with a set-up in the handling window to have a good weekend.
“It’s good to have Daniel back, I think he is really going to like the CTMP circuit. We haven’t really had a good result together yet this year, so hopefully we can get on the podium come Sunday.”
Juncadell is making his first visit to CTMP.
“I have never raced at CTMP,” Juncadella said. “However, I think it is going to be my new favorite circuit. I have practiced on the SIM a lot. I know the layout very well and I love the way it flows. There are a lot of high-speed corners. I think my favorite part is Sector One, where there are three high-speed corners. I think it really suits my driving style.
“I think the layout of the track will also suit our WeatherTech Mercedes-AMG as well. It is a good car in the high-speed sections where downforce helps. I am looking forward to driving again with Cooper and the WeatherTech Racing/Proton team this weekend.”
