WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Toni Vilander (Kankaanpää, Finland) are ready to take on the longest track on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule, Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, to run August 2-4.
Road America is a driver favorite known for such epic turns as Canada Corner and The Kink. The 4.048 mile, 14-turn undulating road course located north of Milwaukee about an hour is considered by the Scuderia Corsa managed team as their home track. MacNeil has been on the podium there and living just three hours away has turned many laps at the central Wisconsin circuit. The team had a tough outing in Lime Rock two weeks ago and will be looking to get back on track this weekend with a strong performance in front of many hometown fans and WeatherTech associates that will be on hand at Road America on Sunday.
“It is always good to race at Road America which I consider my home track,” MacNeil said. “It has about every kind of turn there is, high-speed and low-speed, off camber and then there is The Kink that tests your courage as well as the set-up of the car. We are ready to have a good race. We’ve had some tough outings this year and we need to really put together a complete weekend where we are good in practice and have a car capable of running upfront in the race. I think this can be that weekend.”
“Same as Cooper I like Road America,” Vilander said. “I think it is one of the best circuits in the U.S. I’ve won there in the past in ALMS and have also turned many laps there in the World Challenge Ferrari. I like the fast corners, especially the Carousel leading into the ultra-fast Kink. It has been busy weeks for me, just coming off of the Spa 24. But I am ready for a good race in front of a lot of WeatherTech employees and fans that will be there this weekend.”
