WeatherTech Racing drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Gunnar Jeannette (Salt Lake City, Utah) are heading to Lime Rock Park for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Northeast Grand Prix to run July 20-21.
The fast and tight Lime Rock Park circuit will have the IMSA GTD cars turning sub 60-second lap times around the 1.4-mile, 7-turn circuit comprised of one left hand turn and six right handers. This is an IMSA GT weekend only, with the GTD cars sharing the track with just the GTLM machines. The layout of the Connecticut track rewards a good handling race car as the fast-downhill starting at West Bend (Turn 6) through the Downhill turn (Turn 7) that leads onto the main straight. However, with the fast lap times, one miscue on pit lane will cost valuable track position. MacNeil and Jeannette will be looking to put a complete race together in the Scuderia Corsa prepared No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari this weekend.
“We have had penalties in the last two races,” MacNeil said. “We just can’t have those this weekend at Lime Rock. If we do, we will go down a lap, possibly two. I like the short track configuration, it makes for tight racing. The key for us with the WeatherTech Ferrari will be to have a confident handling car coming down the hill through the last two turns. Our Ferrari shines through high-speed corners, so I am looking forward to this weekend. We need to have a positive race and result this Saturday.”
“Lime Rock is a fun but challenging track to drive,” Jeannette said. “Most of the corners are right handlers, so a lot of time you’ll actually set the car up a bit asymmetrically. West Bend and the Downhill are both super-fast, so it’s normal to carry a lot of downforce. The lap is only around 60 seconds long, so your time on pitlane is crucial because one misstep and you’re a lap down. The crowd is always great and they love sports car racing up there, so it’s always a fun event.”
