Thiim completes TF Sport’s British GT3 line-up
TF Sport has completed its 2019 British GT Championship driver roster by confirming Nicki Thiim will return alongside Mark Farmer in the second of its new-generation Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT3s.
2018’s Allan Simonsen Award winner also finished third in last season’s final standings thanks to two wins and a further four podiums, which included victory at the championship’s blue riband Silverstone 500. That haul also helped TF Sport claim the Teams’ title.
Thiim – a firm fan favourite – and Farmer are joined by Graham Davidson and reigning champion Jonny Adam in TF Sport’s GT3 stable, while a recent expansion also sees it enter another two new-for-2019 Aston Martins in the GT4 category.
The Dane will again split his time between British GT and Aston Martin Racing’s factory FIA WEC commitments.
“I’m looking forward to the coming season with the new Aston Martin,” said Thiim. “It’s really going to be amazing driving the new GT3 around the great British tracks – some of them are now may favourites – old-school, like Oulton Park, so I’ll really enjoy that.
“The first year, everything was new as I didn’t know my team-mate Mark or the UK tracks, so we have a big advantage now going into the second season. We have a better understanding as to what to expect – pushing the right buttons – and so the aim is to perform better than last year and go for the championship.”
Team principal Tom Ferrier added: “We’re grateful to Aston Martin Racing and it’s great to have Nicki back with us this year. His drive to win is something special and some of his races last year – even when he didn’t win – were sensational. He and Mark make a fantastic pairing alongside Graham and Jonny and combined with the new Vantage, we have very clear championship expectations.”
Donington hosts the championship’s pre-season media day on March 5 before the 2019 campaign begins at Oulton Park on April 20 & 22. Fans can attend media day for free, while tickets for Oulton’s Easter Bank Holiday curtain raiser are available here.
NB: The overwhelming interest from teams has now prompted championship organisers to start a reserve list for potential new entries. Anyone eager to compete in 2019 is advised to contact SRO asap.
