Getting off to a quick start to the weekend, the No. 46 Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis (JKTG) Foundation / Camp Boggy Creek Mercedes-AMG GT4 qualified ninth with a fast lap time of 1:57.180-seconds on Friday.
The session was not as positive for the sister No. 4 JKTG Foundation / Camp Boggy Creek Mercedes-AMG GT4, which has been retired from the event following an off-track excursion that caused enough damage to prevent the car from racing on Saturday.
What was scheduled to be two hours of practice quickly was reduced to just over an hour after a rain soaked track on Thursday cancelled the first hour long practice session of the weekend. On Friday morning, TeamTGM was back in action on the now-dry circuit, posting encouraging times in a pair of practices ahead of qualifying.
With Owen Trinkler set to qualify the No. 46 and Ted Giovanis in the No. 4, both were eager to set the grid for Saturday’s four hour event. Unfortunately, the session was halted after Giovanis suffered an off at the exit of the bus stop which caused enough damage to sideline the No. 4 car for the rest of the weekend.
Having only clocked in two fast laps before the red flag was thrown, Trinkler settled with a ninth place starting position running a 1:57.180-seconds.
“It’s unfortunate that happened to Ted (Giovanis) you never want to see that for a team car,” said Trinkler. “For the 46 car we had an ok run. We are still learning and improving the Mercedes-AMG car. Of course I think we should be farther up in the front but we have a good race car. We have four hours to go and I think Hugh (Plumb) and I will get out front and gather some points for the championship.”
