After scoring its maiden team win at Lime Rock Park just two weeks ago, TeamTGM has its focus set to nab another victory at this weekend’s IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (CTSC) Road America 120.
The win was not only the first for the team, but also marked a breakthrough victory for the Mercedes-AMG GT4 in North America after the team moved to the all-new platform ahead of the 2018 IMSA season.
While relishing the win with No. 46 Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis Mercedes-AMG GT4, Hugh Plumb and Owen Trinkler are focused on the task of keeping the momentum going at the 4.048-mile road course, the longest track on the IMSA schedule.
A 2015 CTSC Road America Race winner, Plumb knows that the hard work from the TeamTGM squad will create the ability to see another strong result this weekend.
“It feels great to get the first win for Mercedes-AMG GT4, but that was the last race though,” said Plumb. “Now we need to focus forward. I have always thought that given the makeup of our team, TGM, we are capable of winning races. We need to continue to execute and squeeze everything possible out of our Mercedes-AMG GT4 this weekend.”
Having also stood on the Road America podium in 2015, Trinkler has had his fair share of starts at the lengthy road course but is hoping to once again get his first ever win at the circuit.
Switching gears from IMSA competition, driver of the No. 4 Mercedes-AMG GT4, Ted Giovanis is coming off of his first Ferrari Challenge race weekend at Watkins Glen International. Now heading back to Road America for his third straight weekend of competition, Giovanis is aiming to continue to build on his season behind the wheel of the new Mercedes platform.
Road America is a special place for Giovanis’ teammate, Guy Cosmo, as the track was the site for Cosmo’s first race outing with TeamTGM in 2016. The duo led several laps before ultimately taking the checkered third in the GS order.
“Road America is just amazing, and because the lap is so long, every corner counts,” said Cosmo. “I love this track because it demands being perfect every step of the way, otherwise it costs you big chunks of lap time. Lime Rock really suited the great handling of the Mercedes and TGM absolutely capitalized on that. Road America demands much more acceleration for the long straights and this is where the BoP for all the cars will tell its story. We are superior in many ways with the Mercedes but we’ll see how it all balances out. Either way we are going for it all and I hope Ted (Giovanis) and I can have our best result of the season.”
