TEAM REDLINE RACING CONTINUE PORSCHE CARRERA CUP GB TITLE CHALLENGE WITH DONINGTON PARK PODIUMS
Team Redline Racing picked up a brilliant pair of overall podium finishes and a couple of Pro Am class wins from a successful visit to Donington Park for the penultimate meeting of the 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign (09/10 October).
The Teesside squad headed into the weekend with Dan Cammish holding the overall championship lead following race wins in each of the last two outings at Croft and Silverstone, while Josh Caygill returned to the grid alongside Micah Stanley and Jake Rattenbury in the Pro Am class.
Cammish started his weekend with a strong fourth fastest overall in qualifying on Saturday, which put him on course for a podium challenge in race one. Moving up to third at mid-distance, he starting piling pressure on title rival Lorcan Hanafin ahead.
The two-time champion’s persistence paid off as Hanafin received a track limits time penalty, securing Cammish second in the end. From fourth on the partial reverse grid for race two, he overtook Hanafin once again to finish third, his 10th podium finish of the year.
In Pro Am, Stanley was aiming to bounce back from a nightmare race day at Silverstone two weeks prior. He got off to a perfect start in qualifying as he secured a brilliant third class pole position of the campaign, with Caygill and Rattenbury going fourth and sixth fastest respectively.
Stanley battled for the class win throughout race one and eventually finished second on the road, however a post-race penalty for the driver ahead netted him the class win. He duly followed that up with a supreme lights-to-flag success in race two, making it four wins for the season – more than anyone else in the class.
Caygill got himself into the Pro Am podium battle in the opening race en-route to a fifth place finish, before unfortunately retiring from race two. Rattenbury meanwhile battled hard through the races and secured a pair of sixth place results.
Simon Leonard – Managing Director: “It’s been a fantastic weekend, seeing Dan and Micah up on the podium after both races. Micah had a nightmare Silverstone, so to see him bounce back with a brilliant pair of class wins is really pleasing for the whole team. “While we didn’t quite have the pace to challenge for the wins with Dan this weekend, he did what he does best and fought his way to two podium finishes. He’s in a good position heading into the final two races and we’ll do everything we can to end the year on top. “Josh and Jake showed the pace to be in Pro Am podium contention as well, and it’s a shame that the results didn’t come their way. We have a busy couple of weeks ahead of us as a team and we’re determined to see all our drivers end the season on a high.”
Cammish holds an increased seven point championship lead heading into the final two races of the 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season at Brands Hatch in two weeks’ time (23/24 October).
Prior to that, Team Redline Racing are returning to Donington Park for the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB season finale next weekend (16/17 October).
