TALENTED NEWCOMER AT GRT GRASSER RACING TEAM: HUGO SASSE SET TO GIVE FRESH IMPETUS IN ADAC GT MASTERS

GRT Grasser Racing have taken on another promising young talent in order to beef up their team in the ADAC GT Masters. Hugo Sasse will compete in the Super Sports Car League alongside Lamborghini Junior Tim Zimmermann as the season reaches its frantic climax. This new driver pairing will debut in the #82 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO at the Sachsenring and contest all remaining events together.

A true talent is joining the team, a diamond in the rough so to speak. Sasse first became a member of the squad at the ADAC Sports Foundation in 2016 and his path into sports car racing was paved by twice finishing as runner-up in the German Kart Championship. He made the switch from go-karting to the ADAC GT4 Germany last year and soon rose to the challenges that came with the move by securing eighth place in the overall standings. He rounded off his first season with three podiums, which immediately marked him out as a candidate for promotion to GT3 racing.

Sasse is contesting his rookie season in this year’s ADAC GT Masters. He had a fine showing in the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO first time out, demonstrating his talent in the Oschersleben opener with his first points-scoring result. Aged just 17, he is the youngest in the field and has secured points on three of the four race weekends so far. In addition, the German has taken two top-five finishes in the Junior competition.

After his strong debut, Sasse will now round out GRT Grasser Racing’s Lamborghini-squad of four cars, wearing the team’s colours at the Sachsenring, the Hockenheimring, and the Nürburgring alongside Zimmermann, who had missed out on the Lausitzring weekend just recently because of other commitments. He is now set to go back on the attack with his new team-mate.

For GRT Grasser Racing, the races at the Sachsenring (1st-3rd October) will mark the start of the crucial phase in the battle for the title in the International German GT Championship. The Austrians are in second place in the team standings with a seven-point deficit. In the drivers’ classification, Lamborghini works drivers Mirko Bortolotti and Albert Costa Balboa are likewise hot on the heels of the front runners.

Hugo Sasse: “I’m really looking forward to working with GRT Grasser Racing and am extremely well motivated as regards this season’s last few races. The team are very experienced and I’m excited to see what we can achieve together. I think we are in a good position. I am already familiar with the car, which should definitely be an advantage when we go racing together. I’m pretty certain that Tim and I will get on well. I don’t know him personally yet but know his name from karting. I’m looking forward to learning from him and am confident that we can fight for points right from the start.”

Tim Zimmermann: “It’s great to have found a driver with the right package for the rest of the season. I’m really looking forward to working with Hugo. He has already had some experience of racing the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO and I think that the team have made an excellent choice with him. The season has not been easy so far. I’m keen to secure some strong results in the last few races in order to end the year on a high and also want to secure the best possible outcome for the team in the fight for the championship.”

Team Principal Gottfried Grasser: “We are really pleased to have Hugo on board. He will tackle the last three race meetings with Tim. I have every confidence in this driver pairing. We know Tim’s qualities and as for Hugo, we immediately saw in the first couple of races just what a very fine job he made even as a rookie. It makes us proud to be able to promote the youngest driver in the field in this way. We have always considered it important in our team to give new talent fresh opportunities. We want to support these drivers and do the very best for them so that they can learn, grow and achieve strong results.
