Baptista, Mantella and Stacy Round Out the Top Five in Qualifying
LAKEVILLE, Conn. – After a damp morning and mid-day, the track was dry and quick for GTS competitors in qualifying, and a full out assault on the last flying lap delivered Martin Barkey the pole at Lime Rock Park. Barkey lowered his time at the last moment to take pole by just .064 seconds in his Mantella Autosports KTM Xbow GT4.
Ian James, who paced the GTS practice session just before qualifying, was second fastest in his Panoz Avezzano GT.
“I’m very excited again with the pole position,” said Barkey. “My first pole was last weekend at CTMP and now this one at Lime Rock. Once again, Mantella Autosports has given me a great car and this is a fantastic place to drive. I was a little concerned leading up to the final laps. I didn’t think I had the speed to go for the pole. We needed to get the tires up to temperature to get a quick lap. I love lapping this track.”
James will line up alongside Barkey for the race. Rodrigo Baptista was third fastest in the Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR. He was followed on the time sheets by Anthony Mantella in a KTM Xbow GT4 as all competitors picked up speed throughout the session.
Nate Stacy rounded out the top five in GTS qualifying, with a lap of 57.161 in a Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR.
GTS competitors next take to Lime Rock Park at 5:05 p.m. EDT on Friday for their first race of a double-header weekend event at Lime Rock Park featuring all Pirelli World Challenge classes. Due to inclement weather conditions, live streaming of the race on World-Challenge.com and MotorTrendOnDemand.com may be hindered. All results are provisional until posted Final.
