PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports is back to racing this weekend with drivers Ben Keating and Mikkel Jensen at Road America for the 6th round of the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
At 4.048 miles, Road America is the longest track on the schedule, and a favorite circuit for drivers and fans alike. “Road America is one of our team’s favorite places to race. The atmosphere and fans make it really special”, said Bobby Oergel, team principal. “Road America is without a doubt one of my favorite road courses. I’ve been racing here for many years and have had lots of great memories.” added Ray Mathiasen, team prinicipal.
“Road America is one of the best ‘old school’ racing circuits in the world. It has a special character that has become very rare, in that there is big risk in a super fast lap…. and I love it.” said Ben Keating, driver of the No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca 07 LMP2. “Driving the LMP2 around Road America for the first time will be exhilarating!”
PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports drivers Ben Keating and Mikkel Jensen are currently leading the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) Championship with 35 points up on No. 11 WIN Autosport ORECA drivers Steven Thomas and Tristan Nunez.
We need to approach this race as the previous ones. No mistakes, but also need points for the Championship. With 3 races to go every point counts. We need to maximize this race to bring ourselves to a better position for the end of the Championship and I’m highly motivated for that!” said Mikkel Jensen.
“Everyone in the program has been pushing hard to continue the successful season, and I am very thankful for the drivers and crew’s focus going forward into the last three events starting with Road America.” added Oergel. “We are confident that Mikkel and Ben and our team will be ready to defend our championship points lead.” concluded Mathiasen
