Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific is set for a busy weekend of racing, with its drivers and teams preparing to take on the European Le Mans Series (ELMS), GT World Challenge Asia and Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA).
Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Yifei Ye returns to the wheel of the #37 COOL Racing Oreca 07 alongside Nicolas Lapierre and Niklas Krütten for Round 5 of the ELMS season at Spa-Francorchamps. The trio enjoyed a good result at the previous race in Barcelona, finishing third to take their second podium of the year.
Shanghai-based squad Absolute Racing continue in the LMGTE category in the #18 Porsche 911 RSR. Indonesian racer Andrew Haryanto is joined by former Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Alessio Picariello and Estonian driver Martin Rump as they look to continue their solid form in the team’s debut European season.
The 2022 GT World Challenge Asia campaign comes to an end at the tight and technical Okayama International Circuit this weekend. AAS Motorsport’s Tanart Sathienthirakul and Kantadhee Kusiri aim to continue their good form, which has seen them score points in every race they’ve entered, including a podium at Fuji Speedway.
Porsche Center Okazaki’s Yuta Kamimura and Hiroaki Nagai are targeting their third podium finish of the season in the #30 car, while EBM Giga Racing’s Reid Harker and Setiawan Santoso will look to build on their points finish last time out in the #8 machine.
AMAC Motorsport duo Andrew Macpherson and Ben Porter aim to retain the GT3-Am title this weekend in the #51 Porsche 911 GT3 R (991). A brilliant effort from the pair has seen them take six podium finishes so far this season, and they require just eight points to secure the title they previously won in 2019.
PCCA returns to Zhuzhou International Circuit for Rounds 5 and 6 this weekend, with JUNJIE Racing’s Leo Ye leading the championship, having taken victory in all four races so far. Lu Wei heads the Pro-Am category, while series debutant Tang Ruobin sits atop the Am class standings.
Yifei Ye, #37 COOL Racing Oreca 07: “We’re hoping for a strong weekend following our podium finish last time out at Barcelona. I have good memories at Spa after securing the ELMS title there last year, so I’m happy to be back. It’s going to be much cooler than the last two rounds in Barcelona and Monza, and it might even be a bit cold so we will have to adapt the setup to suit the track conditions. We’re feeling confident as a team and we’ll stay focused and be ready to fight for the win.”
Andrew Haryanto, #18 Absolute Racing Porsche 911 RSR: “I’m excited to race at Spa, it’s a world-famous track and will be a big challenge. My aim for this weekend is to keep working on my pace and to help the team secure a positive result.”
Alessio Picariello, #18 Absolute Racing Porsche 911 RSR: “I’m really looking forward to my home race. It’s always special to race at Spa, not just because it’s my home track but because it’s one of the best circuits in the world. We’ve had some tough moments this season, so it would be great to bounce back here and put in a strong performance this weekend.”
Martin Rump, #18 Absolute Racing Porsche 911 RSR: “Spa is a track I always look forward to driving on. With its long sweeping curves and high-speed sections, as well as one of the most iconic corners of all, it’s an amazing venue to race at. With only two rounds left we’re looking for a positive end to the campaign, starting here in Belgium.”
