United Autosports and Phil Hanson will contest the FIA World Endurance Championship together once more in 2023.

The 23-year-old Briton has raced with the team since 2018, making his debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, alongside F1 legend Fernando Alonso and a young Lando Norris.

In Hanson’s WEC career with United, he has accumulated a number of impressive endurance accolades; this includes being the second youngest driver to win a WEC title claiming LMP2 honours at Le Mans 2020 aged 21 years, 78 days; he also, alongside Paul di Resta and Filipe Albuquerque, scored four consecutive wins between Bahrain 2019 and Le Mans 2020 which made them the only trio in LMP2 history to achieve this feat; his six WEC LMP2 class wins makes him the most decorated Briton in the championship’s history.

Despite a hard fought 2022 campaign, that has not delivered the success that the #22 Oreca-07 crew deserve, Hanson and the team are setting their sights on a new year of racing, with 2023 bringing new opportunities.

The team are excited for the next year, having both Hanson and Albuquerque returning for a fourth WEC season as teammates, a partnership that has also spanned the European Le Mans Series and brought them three shared championship titles, the most prolific being the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans, which led them to be crowned World Endurance Champions that same year.

Phil Hanson

“I am very happy to announce my continuation with United Autosports for another season of WEC in 2023. Together, United and I have shared so much success throughout the last few years of my career and I am as confident as ever that we can challenge for another WEC title next year. Everyone involved is solely focused on winning.”

Richard Dean
“Securing Phil to our WEC team has been a priority for us, we have taken a lot of satisfaction watching Phil develop with our team into a true professional sportsman and the prolific winning racing driver he is today. We have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success together in LMP2, and we plan on continuing this winning partnership into 2023 and beyond.”

Zak Brown
“I’m delighted Phil will be competing for us again in 2023 which, like Filipe’s [Albuquerque] recent signing, shows the faith he has in United and our future prospects. Next season marks Phil’s sixth consecutive year with us and he’s already won Asian Le Mans Series, European Le Mans Series and World Endurance Championship titles with United – and he’s only recently turned 23. I’m certain there’s more success for him around the corner.”
