PHIL HANSON AND TOM GAMBLE TO RETURN TO UNITED AUTOSPORTS EUROPEAN LE MANS SERIES LMP2 TEAM
United Autosports are pleased to confirm that Phil Hanson and Tom Gamble will return to their European Le Mans Series LMP2 team for the 2022 season.
The pair will join forces once again in the #22 Oreca 07 after finishing second in the championship last year. They scored four podiums throughout the 2021 season, including a win at the final round at Portimao, Portugal.
Phil has scored one championship win, seven race wins and 14 podiums across the last five seasons in the ELMS alone, adding to his impressive stats with United Autosports of three championships, 14 race wins and 27 podiums. Tom joined United Autosports in 2020 racing for their LMP3 team, winning three races and scoring four podiums that year, clinching the ELMS LMP3 Championship title. He then moved across to their LMP2 team last year finishing second in the championship.
Phil and Tom’s third co-driver will be announced early next week, with the season starting at Paul Ricard in April.
Phil Hanson
“We have a lot of unfinished business in the ELMS after finishing second in the championship last year. Our only goal this season is to win. I’m excited to be going back into a competitive line up and we have the opportunity to get back the title I won in 2020.”
Tom Gamble
“I’m super excited to be back in the ELMS for my third season. Last year we finished second so the goal is to go one place higher and I think we’ve got the package to do that as we proved at the end of last year. It will be good to go to some new tracks and I’ve never raced at Imola, which I’m looking forward to. I just can’t wait for it to get underway.”
Zak Brown
“I’m really pleased to be able to welcome Phil and Tom back to our ELMS team for 2022. Consistency is key and I’m sure they will build on last season with the aim firmly on getting our championship title back.”
Richard Dean
“Phil and Tom worked really well together last year so I’m pleased we were able to get a deal together so they could return to the ELMS for another shot at the championship title. They were unlucky last year but they were consistently on the podium, showing they had winning credentials at the final round. That’s something we are going to build on this year and go for the championship title once again.”
