Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Endurance Cup returnee Jordan Witt gets his 2022 motor racing season underway this coming weekend, 2nd/3rd April, where a new test awaits him – the British driver’s first ever visit to Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola.
Sunday’s eagerly awaited three-hour race at the world-famous Italian track marks the Nantwich sportsman’s first outing in the globe’s biggest and best GT3 endurance racing championship since 2019, the year he won the Silver Cup class at the prestigious TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa.
As during his previous GTWCE Endurance Cup challenge, Witt races a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 this season but it will be his first campaign with the Leipert Motorsport squad and team-mates Brendon Leitch and Dennis Fetzer.
Mounting a major bid for honours in the hotly contested Silver Cup class, the Lamborghini trio are determined to make a successful start to the season where a grid of more than 50 cars will line-up at the FIA Formula One World Championship venue.
In the Silver Cup class, Witt, Leitch and Fetzer will be battling among almost 20 cars from a variety of manufacturers including Audi, Mercedes-AMG, McLaren and Porsche. The championship stretches over five rounds, with the season concluding in October at Barcelona in Spain.
“I can’t wait to get out to Imola ahead of the weekend, it’s an awesome track and it’ll be amazing racing there for the first time”, said Witt, who is backed by long-standing sponsors Vibe Audio and Yelir World, “Being back in GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup this season is such a fantastic opportunity, and especially with the guys at Leipert and Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
“We’ve got a great driver line-up with Brendon and Dennis and while we know the Silver Cup is probably going to be more competitive than ever this year, we’re all up for the challenge and feeling confident we can put together a strong season.”
As well as a return to GTWCE Endurance Cup for Witt this season, the 2022 championship marks the first for Leipert in 10 years. Witt’s maiden test with the team came a fortnight ago and the squad is now looking forward to getting the new campaign underway a few days from now.
As well as his 2019 season racing a Lamborghini Huracan GT3, Cheshire driver Witt also has plentiful experience with Lamborghini from last year when he appeared in the Fanatec GT2 European Series and Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe.
“I’ve always enjoyed racing Lamborghinis, they’re always there or thereabouts, and so we’re feeling good we have a strong package for this season”, Witt added, “I said when we signed the Leipert deal I’ve got unfinished business in GTWCE, we’ll be pushing hard to make it a successful season.”
Following pre-event testing at Imola on Wednesday, 30th March, the Leipert trio will return to the track on Saturday, 2nd April, for additional free practice ahead of pre-qualifying at 13.05 UK time. On Sunday, 3rd April, final qualifying will begin at 08.00 UK time – running across three 15-minute sessions – with round one following at 14.00 UK time.
