MOISEEV/NESOV END THE INTERNATIONAL GT OPEN ROUND AT MONZA WITH A VICTORY AND A SECOND POSITION

After claiming their second consecutive Am victory in race one at Monza, following the Austrian triumph only two weeks ago, the Antonelli Motorsport duo Alexander Moiseev, Alexey Nesov showed great pace on Sunday’s race two.

The Russian pair ended the fourth of six International GT Open rounds with a double podium finish. Nesov, driving the Kaspersky backed Mercedes-AMG GT3 of the Italian outfit, set a brilliant class pole position in this morning’s qualifying, 91 milliseconds ahead of the twin car of Florian Scholze, to finish 10th in the grid. At the race start Nesov was perfect, moving up to the sixth position before handing over the car to his team-mate when he was on P4.

Unfortunately a safety car period with 15 minutes to the finish line, due to the Salih Yoluc’s Aston Martin Vantage and Bar Baruch’s McLaren contact, let Scholze’s team-mate Jens Liebhauser to dramatically reduce the gap from Moiseev. The German eventually passed the Russian racer to take the lead.

Anyhow team Antonelli Motorsport completed another positive weekend as championship runner-up, only four points from Scholze-Liebauser.

The next GT Open round is scheduled at Spa-Francorchamps, in Belgium, on 17th/18th October. Meanwhile team Antonelli Motorsport will face next weekend the second of four Italian GT Sprint rounds at the Mugello circuit.
