Great news for the German GT Championship: Montaplast by Land-Motorsport will line up again in this season’s ADAC GT Masters with defending champion Christopher Mies (32/Düsseldorf). The reigning German GT Champion will contest the 2022 International German GT Championship alongside new team member Tim Zimmermann (25/Lochau) at the wheel of a new Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II with the start number 1. The team owned by Wolfgang and Christian Land will field three cars from the German sports car manufacturer this year.
“We are very proud to have worked successfully with Chris for so many years,” said team manager Christian Land. “Right from the outset, we have made no secret of the fact that we want to continue to work with him. As such, we are delighted that he is part of the team again. Everyone in the team can benefit from his experience, and we are on the same wavelength as people too – that is hugely important.”
Mies made his debut in the International German GT Championship in 2009 and is one of the most experienced GT3 drivers in the world. After winning the title in 2016, the Audi works driver was crowned ADAC GT Masters champion for the second time last year with Ricardo Feller (21/CH). In the Audi Sport squad, Mies is the driver with the most titles to his name. In January, he added victory at the 24 Hours of Dubai to his list of successes. Newcomer Tim Zimmermann will be contesting his third ADAC GT Masters season in 2022. The former ADAC Stiftung Sport driver impressed in his debut season, winning the Pirelli Junior competition in 2020.
“I am really looking forward to being part of the team again. We obviously want to challenge for the title again this season,” said Mies. “In Tim, I once again have a really fast driver at my side, and someone who already has experience of the ADAC GT Masters. I am sure we can mix it at the front of the field together.”
The team from the Westerwald region has its sights set on defending more than just the overall title in 2022: Last year, they also won the titles in the Pirelli Junior and Team competitions. Land-Motorsport also completed the treble in 2016. Which two pairs of drivers will support the team in its title defence will be announced shortly.
