MARVIN DIENST STEPS INTO THE SPACE DRIVE COCKPIT FOR MAXIMILIAN BUHK AT THE DTM IN HOCKENHEIM

For the penultimate DTM weekend from October 1-3 at Hockenheim, Marvin Dienst will take over for Maximilian Buhk in the Space Drive cockpit of the #18 Mercedes-AMG GT3, which has no mechanical connection at all between the steering unit and the steering gear. The regular driver of the steer-by-wire car, Maximilian Buhk, is prevented from competing as he is driving in another race. The AMG GT3 performed well at the last DTM weekend in Spielberg, securing further points for Mercedes-AMG Team Mücke Motorsport. “We hope to build on this success next weekend at the TT Circuit in Assen, the Netherlands,” says Maximilian Buhk.

Marvin Dienst is no stranger to the Mercedes-AMG Team Mücke Motorsport. He took his first steps in professional motorsport in 2013 as part of the ADAC Formula and already drove once for Mücke Motorsport in 2014. In 2015, he became the first winner of the German Formula 4 Championship. Since 2016, Marvin Dienst has been sitting in the GT3 cockpit, including at the ADAC GT Masters, 24h Le Mans or currently in the GT Word Challenge Endurance. The 24-year-old is also not entering new territory with his entry in the steer-by-wire Mercedes AMG GT3 #18. He already sat behind the Space Drive wheel in a GT4 as part of the 24h Nürburgring in 2020. “That was a mega experience, we wrote a piece of automotive history. I have very positive memories of the system in all respects, even in the rain, and I’m excited to see how the technology has developed.”

The GT3 specialist was able to complete his first laps this week during a test at Hockenheim. “I am very familiar with the Mercedes-AMG, with the steering and of course with the track at Hockenheim. It’s my home track,” says Dienst. “The Space Drive technology has come a long way since last year. It felt very good from the start. I know the car, I know the steering and still it’s something else to go into such a fiercely competitive field as the DTM and that too with Mücke Motorsport, it’s a well-rounded thing. I’m looking forward to the race weekend.”

Mercedes-AMG Team Mücke Motorsport is currently 11th in the team standings with 11 points. “We are delighted to welcome an old acquaintance to the Space Drive cockpit at Hockenheim. Marvin Dienst earned his first spurs with us as a young professional. We hold him and his expertise in very high regard. He is also already familiar with the Space Drive system,” says team boss Peter Mücke. “Especially with a development project like this, it is important to work with different development drivers. We started the project with Gary Paffett who was already able to provide us with important feedback for the development during the test drives, as well as Maximilian Buhk during the last ten DTM rounds.”

Maximilian Buhk will also sit in the Space Drive cockpit at the upcoming DTM weekend at the TT Circuit in Assen, the Netherlands. The approximately 4.5-kilometer circuit in Assen, which is also known as the “Cathedral of Speed” is new territory for Maximilian Buhk and the Mercedes-AMG Team Mücke Motorsport with its fast and medium-fast corners.

The sixth DTM weekend at the TT Circuit Assen will start with one race each on Saturday and Sunday. The race weekend will start twice on Friday, September 17, with the 45-minute free practice session. On Saturday, September 18, qualifying will be held at 10:15 a.m. for the first grid position. The race start is traditionally at 1:30 p.m. Racing Sunday starts with qualifying at 10 a.m. for the second race of the weekend, which also begins at 1:30 p.m. SAT.1 will broadcast the races live on both days from 1:00 p.m. All practice runs and races can also be seen in the livestream under DTM Grid. The other DTM dates: October 1-3 Hockenheimring and the season finale at the Norisring from October 8-10.
