Daiko Lazarus Racing made a stunning comeback to the GT Open, as the two Lamborghini Huracans each topped one of the two sessions of free practice today at Estoril. Fabrizio Crestani (in the car shared with local star Miguel Ramos) was fastest in the morning with a time of 1.38.420, while young Brit Toby Sowery, the team mate of Giuseppe Cipriani, took the best time of the day in the afternoon, with a time of 1.38.149.
Interestingly, none of those times beat the 1.38.125 posted by Allam Khodair (Drivex Mercedes) yesterday, in the private tests, despite cooler temperature and rain regularly disturbing the three sessions.
On Friday’s combined results, another Lambo came third-fastest behind the Lazarus cars: the Imperiale Racing’s machine of Agostini-Breukers, 436 thousandths behind. The SPS Mercedes of Pierburg-Onslow-Cole took 4th, ahead of the Luzich Ferrari of Rugolo-West and the Drivex-Mercedes of Khodair-Hahn. Local heroes Coimbra-Silva on the Sports&You Mercedes shone topping the Am class, with a time that meant P4 in session 2.
The only incident of the day was a contact between the Krypton Mercedes and the Optimum Audi at turn 1 that prompted a red flag in session 2 but did not cause serious damage to the cars.
