Hong Kong driver, Jonathan Hui, has confirmed that he will continue to race with Sky Tempesta Racing for a fourth consecutive season at the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS championship (GTWC) in 2022. In 2021, Hui became the first driver from Hong Kong to secure a GT World Challenge Europe championship by winning both the teams’ and drivers’ Endurance Cup Pro-Am championship titles. He will be looking to continue to extend this run of incredible success, this year making the switch to a brand new Mercedes-AMG GT3.
The Sky Tempesta Racing driver line-up remains unchanged as Hui will be joined by Chris Froggatt and Eddie Cheever III. The trio has worked well together and is deemed to be one of the strongest line-ups in the newly introduced Gold Cup. The new category has over 13 entrants for the Endurance Cup, with the requirement to have one FIA graded Bronze, Silver and Gold driver, similar to the configuration of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans race.
The British team is looking to build upon their quick rise to the top with their switch this year from Ferrari to Mercedes-AMG. The beautiful Sky livery of white with blue and red accents will feature on track at the GTWC Europe. Despite achieving unmatched success, the team has yet to conquer the historic TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa race, with their best finish of second-place coming in 2020. This year the trio will be focusing on rising to the top step of the podium in the Belgian Adrennes at this all important endurance. The team is also setting their sights on competing at Le Mans in the future, with the entry into the Gold Cup promising to be a valuable experience for the line-up.
Hui is preparing for the upcoming season with the first race of the Endurance Cup fast approaching. The season will kick off this weekend for the #93 Sky Tempesta Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 at the 3-hour endurance season-opener to be held on 1-3 April 2022 in Imola, Italy. The relatively short race presents an excellent opportunity for Hui and his teammates to get comfortable with the new machinery before the 2 most challenging races of the calendar. Sky Tempesta Racing are confident to kick off their title defence season with a strong result this weekend.
