Team Parker Racing is delighted to announce that talented young racer Joe Warhurst will join its line-up in the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB for the 2023 season, with his eyes firmly on the championship title.

Joe, who hails from Barnsley, has previously competed in the Ginetta Junior Championship. He initially took part in a handful of races at the end of 2020, before tackling full campaigns in ’21 and ’22, scoring four podium in the latter.

Wanting to remain on the TOCA Package, alongside the British Touring Car Championship, the 17-year-old tested one of the team’s Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport machines and quickly gelled with the car and team, signing up for 2023.

The South Yorkshire-based racer has been getting valuable mileage with slick tyres on dry circuits ahead of the campaign, joining the team in Spain and Portugal for the inaugural Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe campaign.

The Porsche Sprint Challenge GB gets underway at Donington Park in April, taking in six weekends across the United Kingdom before coming to a close at Brands Hatch in October.

“The championship is the aim this year. I’ve not heard who else is going to be racing but I believe I should be able to have a good run at it. I’m learning very quickly in the car and everything’s coming together faster than I thought, so that’s positive. It’s a great car to drive as well. I really enjoy it, which I think is important.

“We were looking at options at the end of last year and were hoping that we’d go into Ginetta G55 or something similar but that isn’t really a thing anymore. We heard that the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB was going to replace them on the TOCA package, which is a huge advantage, as it will help me a lot with media coverage – plus I really like the structure of the weekend. I think the Porsche pyramid looks really positive and a good path for me to make my way along.

“A few people who have coached me in the past are Harry King and Adam Smalley and I’ve seen how they’re doing at the moment with Porsche, and I want to jump on that. Parker seems like a great team to do that with because they’ve got the Carrera Cup team, they’ve got the Caymans and the GT3. They’ve also race in the Porsche Supercup, so it was a no brainer, really.

“We spoke to a few different teams but one of my mates is Jack Sherwood and his dad, Justin, races with Parker, and he recommended the team. We had a test at Snetterton, and I really liked the team. I think they’re a great bunch of guys, really professional, and we’re already working well together in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe.”
