The JMW/WeatherTech Ferrari team is competing in the 86th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and at the six-hour mark they are running third in the LM GTE AM category.

Drivers Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.), Jeff Segal (Miami, Fla.) and Liam Griffin (Britain) have all cycled through the No. 84 JMW/WeatherTech Ferrari. Segal put in an opening double stint to get the black-and-white Ferrari into the top five from his ninth place starting position. Handing over to MacNeil at almost two hours, he was able to navigate some slow zones to get the car up to second position. Griffin took over from MacNeil at 6:53 p.m. local time for his double stint.

“The car is a lot more competitive in race trim than it was in qualifying,” Segal said. “That is a pleasant surprise. There are a lot of fast cars in the AM field. We were able to have a photo moment running around with the No. 85 WeatherTech sponsored Ferrari, so that was nice. Things are going really good right now. A very long way to go, but best possible start we could ask for.”

“My first stint went really well,” MacNeil said. “I got in the car and we were P5. I inherited the lead on my in-lap and then drove it to P2. There is 18 hours left and a lot can happen and will. The pace and aggression of the AM field is pretty crazy right now. A lot more action to come.”

“It was mega,” exclaimed Griffin. “It was serious good fun. The JMW/WeatherTech Ferrari is awesome. The experience of racing at Le Mans, just being out there in the mix is terrific. Taking over the car in second place after Jeff and Cooper put in great drives was fantastic. I just put my head down and turned laps faster than I’ve gone all week. I don’t want to let them or the team down.”

Currently Segal is back in the JMW/WeatherTech Ferrari as night begins to fall in Le Mans.
