21-year-old Jack Butel will contest his first endurance event outside of Britain on the 5-7 January 2018. The Jerseyman heads to Dubai with Speedworks Motorsport for nine grueling hours in his LMP3 Ligier sports car in the Middle East.
Butel enjoyed a successful maiden season in the UK LMP3 Cup aboard his Speedworks Motorsport prepared Ligier JS P3 LMP3 in 2017 – claiming five podiums, including a breakthrough win at the season finale at Donington on his way to third in the standings.
2018, a new year and new challenge for the Channel Islander as Butel’s season gets underway in the Middle East for three, three-hour races at the Dubai Autodrome. Partnered with Dutchman Rik Breukers, the young pairing will share the driving duties in the 5-litre sports prototype.
“I can’t wait for Dubai next month,” enthused Butel. “Unfortunately we had to miss an American endurance event last month due to health reasons and it’s felt like a long time since our last race at Donington – but that has made me even hungrier to get back into the car.
“This will be a big step-up from our races in the UK this season. The races in Britain are only one hour and there are only two a weekend. In Dubai we will be racing in three, three-hour races in the same time frame. Combined with the mid twenties temperature in Dubai, the heat in the cars will be sky-high. The weekend will be a real test of not only speed and endurance but also stamina and fitness.
“2017 has exceeded my expectations. I can’t thank my family, sponsors and supporters for their continued support. I can’t wait to get my 2018 season underway and it’s going to be a real challenge, but one I am ready for and I hope to be fighting at the sharp end.”
The three, three-hour races will take place on 5-7 January 2018. Jack’s full race calendar is being finalised and will be announced in due course.
