CETILAR RACING TRIO LACORTE, SERNAGIOTTO AND FUOCO SECURE PODIUM FINISH IN THE FIA WEC OPENER AT SPA
Cetilar Racing made its category debut claiming its first ever podium in the FIA WEC Championship. Roberto Lacorte, Giorgio Sernagiotto and Antonio Fuoco secured the LMGTE Am third position in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, first of the 2021 calendar, after completing a perfect race in the Ferrari 488 GTE EVO car run by AF Corse. This result is a milestone for Cetilar Racing, competing for the second season in the FIA WEC after a year in the LMP2.
In the Friday’s qualifying Lacorte set the sixth quickest lap-time of the class among 12 entries. The Italian racer today completed a first double stint moving up to fourth before he was involved in a contact with the Aston Martin driven by Paul Dalla Lana that costed the Canadian a drive though penalty. Eventually Lacorte maintained the sixth position after the first pit-stop.
Lacorte handed over to Sernagiotto, who moved up to fifth and then fourth and third position. Fuoco completed the last stint, taking the fourth position till the last minutes. A drive though penalty handed to the Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche promoted Cetilar Racing to third.
“Me, Giorgio and Antonio completed a tough weekend”, said a very happy Roberto Lacorte. “Last Tuesday I went to the hospital due to the consequences of the incident with Kamui Kobayashi. Today I was involved in another incident by Paul Della Lana… After some difficult years we finally hit the taget. It was very exciting for us to reach the podium after a six-hour battle. The support we had by Amato Ferrari and his staff and by AF Corse played a key-role.”
“We had four/five difficult seasons in which we couldn’t show how good our team was”, added Giorgio Sernagiotto. “Taking a podium result at our very first race in the LMGTE let us to redeem. First of all I am very happy for Roberto, who never gave up and certainly is worth of it. I’m happy for Antonio, who is a newcomer, and for me. We have still to improve in some areas, like all the teams. I look forward the rest of the season.”
“I’m very satisfied for this result. It was not completely unexpected, but I was surprised to take a podium at my WEC debut. I thank my team and coach Andrea Belicchi, who made a great job indeed. I think we are on the right way”, said Antonio Fuoco.
The next FIA WEC round will be the 8 Hours of Portimão, on 12/13 June.
