The 87th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in which team Cetilar Racing made its third participation at the La Sarthe race, marked a halfway point for the Italian team as it is all set for the new FIA World Endurance Championship challenge, fielding a new LMP2 powered-Gibson Dallara LMP2 car in the 2019-2020 season.
For this new challenge Cetilar Racing has joined the forces with winning squad AF Corse. The Amato Ferrari’s team, led by French Team Principal Philippe Dumas, will technically support the program with the all-Italian line-up formed by Roberto Lacorte, Andrea Belicchi and Giorgio Sernagiotto.
“The new challenge with AF Corse continues the program we started five years ago to end on Sunday 16th June, when we finish the 87th 24 Hours Le Mans. We are very happy and satisfied of our job, finishing for three consecutive times the most famous and difficult race in the world”, Cetilar Racing’s Roberto Lacorte commented, “We wish to grow up more. This is the reason I decided to start this new challenge with AF Corse in the FIA WEC 2019-2020, becoming the only all-Italian team racing in the Prototype category of the World Endurance Championship. The Amato Ferrari’s team represents a warranty for us. It is without any doubt the top, with a huge experience in the endurance that will help us to do the best”.
“On Saturday night, during the last 24 Hours Le Mans, Gérard Neveu and Jean Todt came to visit us for giving a warm welcome. That proves how important is our program”, Lacorte added, “We also have a great responsability. The Italian fans consider us as a sort of “national endurance team”. That gives us a great motivation to produce the maximum effort from now to the 2020 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans”.
“I am happy to collaborate again with Roberto, a very fast driver with a solid experience, who started his racing career driving a Ferrari Challenge 430 car fielded by AF Corse”, Amato Ferrari said, “Similar things I can say about Sernagiotto, who raced for many years with us. Bellicchi is a very professional driver. It will be a pleasure to work with him. Cetilar is a consolidated team at the top of motorsport, after showing well in the years. The FIA WEC will be a great challenge for all of us”.
The Barcelona Prologue, on 23/24 July, will kick off the new FIA WEC season that consists in eight rounds. 4 Hours of Silverstone will start the championship on the 1st of September, followed by the two Asian races, 6 Hours of Fuji (6 October) and 4 Hours of Shanghai (10 November). 8 Hours of Bahrain is scheduled on 14 December. The series will resume on the 1st of February with the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, followed by 1000 Miles of Sebring (20 March). The European venue will end the Championship with the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (2 May) and the 24 Hours Le Mans (13/14 June)..
