Caterham Motorsport has suspended registrations for the 2018 grids as the championships boast impressive registrations of 213 racing drivers ready to take to the track.

The five Caterham Motorsport championships running in 2018 (Academy, Roadsport, 270R, 310R and 420R) have received a total registration increase of 18% compared with 2017.

At this point last year, 179 racers were signed up for the five series, 34 fewer than this season.

The thriving championships mirror the success Caterham is having in the road car market, with 2017 and 2016 providing back-to-back record sales years. Part of this success is the continued popularity of the Caterham’s Academy series, which greeted its 1000th competitor last season.

Caterham Motorsport Director, Simon Lambert, said: “It is astonishing to think that we have turned more than 1000 people into racing drivers since 1995 – including myself!

“However, we have always understood that to be the best you cannot stand still and there is even more focus and investment into our motorsport operation this year. We wish to continue the growth, so we are already planning for the 2019 season.”

In addition Caterham Motorsport’s popularity, the low running costs of the Caterham Seven, strictly controlled regulations and gripping, close racing make for the perfect proving ground for GT racing talent. GT race winners including Graham Johnson, Jon Barnes and Adam Balon all cut their racing teeth in the venerable Caterham Seven.
