CarBahn with Peregrine Racing is taking to the streets of Long Beach for the penultimate round of the IMSA WeatherTech Sprint Cup.
The California-based team is headed five hours south from its headquarters in San Jose to Long Beach with the No. 39 Audi R8 GT3 LMS in tow. With only two rounds remaining in the IMSA WeatherTech Sprint Cup the CarBahn with Peregrine Racing group aims to optimize its knowledge from its maiden year in GTD. With past success on street courses, the team also looks to add a few more accolades to its resume this weekend.
Drivers Richard Heistand and Jeff Westphal are set for their second street course outing of 2021, this time on the 1.97-mile, 11 turn Long Beach Street Course. The pair has made notable progress since their first street course endeavor, most recently sorting out a setup gremlin that had been plaguing them for past races. This strong setup will be key during the shortened weekend as the group aims to roll off the truck fast – something it has excelled at since its conception in 2017.
The No. 39 Audi R8 GT3 LMS has just over 36 hours in Long Beach for two practices, qualifying, and the race. Friday, September 24, see’s Practice 1 at 12:45 p.m. ET, Practice 2 at 4:20 p.m., and Qualifying at 7:50 p.m. The team returns to the track Saturday, September 25, for the Grand Prix of Long Beach.

“There hasn’t been a weekend where we haven’t learned something we believe would help us perform in the future,” Heistand said. “We struggled a bit with setup early at Laguna Seca but found something I believe has been hurting us for a little while now and will hopefully now make us more competitive at Long Beach. Will we be fast? I hope so. We need to roll off fast with a good feeling in the car. It’s been a while since we’ve done that so it’s time to get back on track.”

“I am optimistic that we will have good pace and good ride control like at Detroit,” Westphal said. “The tracks share some similarities but there are some key differences as well. Time will tell, but I’m confident in our CarBahn with Peregrine Racing team at our first visit to Long Beach. There is no question in my eyes that we as a group could not repeat the success of Detroit. The learning never stops, and we’ve made some key steps in the events following Detroit until now. I feel that we are more prepared to capitalize on execution and performance.”
