British GT’s 2019 calendar confirmed
> Two-hour race scheduled for Donington’s June event
> Leicestershire venue also hosts British GT’s 2019 Media Day on March 5
British GT’s 2019 calendar will again feature a total of nine races following confirmation of the format for Donington Park’s additional round on June 22/23.
The sale of Rockingham earlier this year prompted championship organisers to add a second round at Donington, albeit much earlier in the year than its traditional September season finale. Several formats were considered for British GT’s first visit in June when a two-hour race around the circuit’s full GP configuration is now confirmed for Sunday afternoon.
Donington’s GP layout will also once again host the championship’s annual pre-season Media Day on March 5 when the majority of 2019’s entries, plus those from BRDC British F3, will assemble for the first time. Spectators are also welcome to attend for free.
British GT Championship General Manager Benjamin Franassovici: “We were very open about assessing new formats for our first visit to Donington next season but have ultimately decided to stick with the tried and tested two-hour endurance race on Sunday. We explored several options including distance, number of races, and time of day but concluded that changing things for the sake of it – and especially at a circuit as popular as Donington – was the wrong thing to do.”
The 2019 campaign begins at Oulton Park on Easter Bank Holiday Weekend (April 20/22).
