Beechdean AMR confirm Aston GT3 and 4 for Howard/Sorensen and Fletcher/Plowman
Beechdean AMR will expand its British GT programme to once again encompass GT3 and GT4 next season after confirming new-generation Aston Martin Vantage entries for both classes.
The long-time AMR customer has lined up factory FIA WEC ace Marco Sorensen to partner team owner and two-time Drivers’ champion Andrew Howard aboard its GT3 entry, while 2018’s Pro/Am runners-up Kelvin Fletcher and Martin Plowman have switched to Beechdean’s relaunched GT4 programme.
Sorensen managed only one victory during his debut British GT campaign with TF Sport this year. However, the Dane’s speed was never in doubt en route to four fastest laps across the campaign, which earned him the ‘Sunoco Fastest Driver of the Year’ award.
Howard, meanwhile, finished fifth in the standings – one place ahead of Sorensen – courtesy of three podiums alongside Darren Turner.
“The new Aston Martin Vantage is looking very strong for 2019 and I am excited to be pairing up with Marco,” said Howard. “He showed exceptional pace in 2018 on many tracks that were completely new to him. It is also great to see Beechdean AMR back to running two cars in British GT. As ever it’s going to be a fiercely competitive series but we are planning to be at the sharp end in both categories. Bring on Oulton Park!”
Indeed, perhaps the biggest news concerns Beechdean AMR’s return to the GT4 ranks for the first time since 2016. Two Drivers’ titles – in 2014 and ’15 – as well as finishing runners-up in its final season with the first-generation V8 Vantage represents arguably the most successful GT4 programme in British GT history.
Hoping to maintain that run, albeit aboard a new-for-2019 Vantage, are Fletcher and Plowman who were pipped to this year’s Pro/Am title by Nick Jones and Scott Malvern. Both will be hoping to claim their maiden outright class wins together after spending two years campaigning UltraTek Racing’s Nissan 370Z.
“I’m very excited to be returning to British GT with Kelvin and grateful that I get to continue the great relationship we’ve had so far,” said Plowman. “Even though we’ll be in a new team with a brand new car we are both hungrier than ever and aim for success from the start.
“Being with a team of Beechdean AMR’s experience and understanding of the Aston Martin marque is a very positive step for me personally and I look forward to being a part of everything next season has to offer. We have a lot of unfinished business in this championship, so I can’t wait to get started!”
British GT’s 2019 season begins at Oulton Park over Easter Bank Holiday Weekend (April 20 & 22). Reserve your tickets here before December 31 to take advantage of 2018 prices!
